Re: Super-Ultra-Hyper-Mega-Meta Lydian
Yeah - speaking of microtonal passing tones, right? - But since you asked, there were actually 2 bass players on that record, my old friend Carol Kaye on electric and Chuck Berghofer on upright, both members of the 15 or 20 studio musicians in L.A. loosely known as "the wrecking crew" who played on most pop records recorded in L.A. in the 60s. Chuck played the descending tonally ambiguous line and Carol played the Nashville style tick-tack part on electric.
BTW the tune is called "These BOOTS are made for walkin".
And yes Jacob is the new certified genius in London town. He has dozens of videos on YouTube and the more you see, the more amazing you realize he is. I believe he is only 22 years old. He comes from a family of accomplished musicians and singers and that explains a lot.
Here's one more where he plays his one of a kind Vocal Harmonizer Keyboard. I read where it was built for him by engineers at M.I.T. Fitting for this tune he summons up low bagpipe drones with his voice within his chord voicings and it's sublime.
There's another amazing musician named June Lee who spends his time transcribing this guy's music. And if you wanna geek deeply, here's that video:
