Exclusive chords tidbit
Did you know..... In a Major key, certain chords are exclusive in their function.
1- Dominant chords are always V G7 is V of C
2- minor6 chords are always ii Dm6 is ii of C
3-Major7#11 is always IV FMaj7#11 is IV of C
These chords cannot exist otherwise to be consistent with a key. This helps for composing progressions and analyzing for solo possibilities.

Can you put this in a video? I understand better when I see and hear it. Lee Vatip wrote: Did you know..... In a Major key, certain chords are exclusive in their function.

Video won't help
simple example G7= GBDF this can only exist in C major thus it's a V chord in C and so on It's more analytical than visual on the fretboard. Steve

Steve Adelson Being a bit maniac about harmony, I agree completely.

Hey Werkspace.
I can tell you from experience after 3 semesters at Uni, that you will benefit greatly from just working it out in your head first , then play it. Steve's right of course, it's all about note recognition and getting used to keys and what works within them.
I used to think that that I would never get my head around it, not that I'm totally across all major/minor modes yet.
Just try it once and you'll want to do more....

Basic theory is crucial. The Stick is totally logical in layout and applying certain musical rules simplifies so many concepts on the fretboard grid. Effortless Mastery to quote Kenny Werner.
