What do you want to learn?
Hi everyone, In light of discussion around the latest instructional video I posted, ( viewtopic.php?f=15&t=5942) I'd like to get some feedback on what you are most interested in learning on The Stick. As someone who is comfortable playing and teaching in a wide variety of genres and situations, providing a variety of choices for people seems to me the best way to get my technique concepts out there. So this poll is designed to help me prioritize future lesson materials based on your needs and desires. Question: Which musical situations/styles are you looking for help in? I'm sticking to common genres for the moment, "prog" fitting into rock, etc... For other, please write a response to the thread.. 1. rock band - rhythm section 2. rock band - bass/lead 3. rock band - two-handed bass 4. rock solo - "one-man band" 5. jazz band - rhythm section 6. jazz band - bass and lead 7. jazz band - comping and lead 8. jazz solo 9. classical solo 10. pop accompaniment - supporting vocals 11. other - please elaborate

Re: What do you want to learn?
Great topic Greg. I was pleased to see so many people interested in Solo Jazz Chapman Stick! Ambitious, but always my favorite style being a big fan of Jim Hall, Barney Kessel and Herb Ellis.
It might also be interesting to know the context / band arrangement in which people are playing. Are you doubling on another instrument? Keyboard, Bass or guitar?
Really looking forward to the data on this! -Gene

For 'other', I'd say 'jazz bass'... (But, in fact, I think they'd ALL make great lessons... so, if you just cloned yourself, say, a dozen times, then the 12th Greg could work the camera and mix the sound... )

Jazz solo is of course a favorite but would love to add Texas Blues. Not exactly sure how you can get the SRV sound but I'm sure it can be done.

Re: What do you want to learn?
I do a pretty mean SRV, assuming he was playing the Stick and missing about 6 fingers, lol.

Re: What do you want to learn?
I think it would be interesting to consider stick from a rock band perspective and how the stick can fit into "traditional" rock band roles. I'm particularly interested in how stick would handle the traditional distorted rhythm guitar role and/or how stick would interact with rock guitars. If we just consider the melody side of the stick, there is a lot of possible overlap, but each instrument will have its own specialties. The same goes for the bass side of the stick and bass.
Actually, I guess what I am really interested in is the interaction with stick and other instruments in a small band setting.
