Tap In Time, Episode 34 - Glenn and Jim
Hi everyone! #34 is now up and should hit all the podcast providers shortly.
Glenn Poorman and Jim Meyer sit in together with Claire and me, and we hit a number of topics. (This was recorded a few months back, in the fall when last summer's Interlochen and Gabriola events were fresh in our minds.)
Hope everyone enjoys it!

Re: Tap In Time, Episode 34 - Glenn and Jim
Listening now and the bit about watching videos of players who use different tunings really resonates. YouTube is an amazing resource to be sure, but as pointed out in the podcast it's got its limitations.
I've been fiddling around with Mercy Street myself, and encountering similar challenges... mostly coming from my near-total lack of experience and knowledge.
And when I found Rob Martino's One Cloud and fell in love with it, I was crushed to find out that there's no way I can play it without his tuning.
One thing I've learned to do when trying to emulate something I see on YouTube is to first see if I can figure out what tuning the player is using by just focusing in on one chord or progression. Nobody includes that info... not that there should be any expectation of it by any means, but it sure would be handy!
The idea of doing your own take, using what you see and hear in the video as a starting point/guideline vs. just trying to play the same thing also strikes a chord with me (yuk yuk). For something like Mercy Street, I'm using Gene's lovely arrangement as a reference while also looking at chord progressions found online and thinking about what I hear in the original piece. It's led me in some different directions.
This is the beauty of using the efforts of others as creative inspiration for what speaks to us as individuals. It's why sharing is so valuable and such a wonderful service to the Stick community.

Re: Tap In Time, Episode 34 - Glenn and Jim
This was a great episode. So great to hear there was such a good turnout for both events. This last trip was my first to Vancouver / Gabriola and it was fantastic.
Such great points about tunings too - this was a valuable discussion as we so often learn using visual guides. I'm going to try and tune up my 12-string Bamboo in Classic and see if I can re-learn Mercy Street in standard.
Thanks Vic and Claire (and Jim and Glenn) for another great episode.
