SG12 or an Alto, Recommendations?
I've scoured youtube and checked out what I could find, both seem very appealing to me. Pros? Cons? Help a fella out, eh? Thanks, dudes!

Hi Jaye. I'd go the SG 12, only cause I've always wanted one.

Re: SG12 or an Alto, Recommendations?
After a bit of research, I am thinking that an SG12, might be most suited to what I want to do. I think that it's the overlap with the 6 strings on either side that has a lot of potential for utility. And something like the one in the picture on the SE site "Bamboo with Green linear Inlays" looks pretty killer...
So would a matched reciprocal tuning work, and what notes are they tuned to if so? 5th higher? F#BEADG F#BEADG?
I still have a lot of thinking to do, because I kind of want an NS/Stick too. I will get an opportunity to see/hear one in May so my purchase decision will have to wait until after that...
But the SG12 would be a really unique sounding instrument that I could really leverage what I already know. Plus it's a little smaller, easier to pack, etc etc...
Funny story, I thought before today that an Alto Stick was the same as an SG 12... DOH!

Hey buddy, just one question... have you taken the Grand Stick you play to the limits? Have you exhausted all of its possibilities? of course, you are an awesome guitar player, and this might be a natural extension of that. Best of luck!!

So what IS the difference between the SG12 and the Alto? I rarely ever hear much about SG12 (or Stick Bass for that matter!)

I am a terrible Stick player, but I am always working towards getting better. It's the same with guitar, I am just learning. I recognise that I am no one... I like studying music is all, and having more resources to study it would be convenient. I thought it would be nice to have a slightly more portable version of the grand to take with me when carting around the Grand isn't practical, so that I could continue my practice/play. Y'know, convenience? Ahhh well, maybe I won't buy either. Sounds like a bad idea now that you mention it. -S

I posted some first impressions back when I got my SG12. Basically, the SG12 is the 12-string version of the Alto.

The SG12 feels like a different instrument to me. It definitely does not feel like a "practice" version of the Grand.
