Hi Guys.

Just another case of GAS regarding the NS, but can I ask you, has there been a change to the fretless side with the use of a metal hard surface.

I really would prefer the fretless side to be wood, unless there are any distinct disadvantages.

Cheers

Hi,

As far as I remember, the half-fretless NS stick has wooden fretless surface (unlike someone's custom semi-fretless stick with a metal panel).

To think of a disadvantage, roundwound strings are known to wear out the wooden neck surfaces quickly enough, that's why most fretless bassists use flatwound strings instead. However, Stick Enterprises only ship roundwound strings afaik.

I know that the half fretless has been made in both configurations (wood and metal plate).
Don Schiff's is a metal plate on top.

I'm guessing that SE could probably convert your current fretted version into a half fretless by putting on a metal plate.

I think my next instrument will be the half-fretless...

Hi Gents.

I don 't own an NS at this point, but I am playing in a bass role a lot on my 10 string.

I'm really thinking of an eventual NS half fretless or just a plain old bass. NS would be a preference.

Just dreaming now... but wouldn't it be cool with a ten-stringed Stick set up for six fourth tuned strings on the melody side and four fifth tuned for the mirrored fretless bass side?

On such an instrument one could slap a set of guitar strings on the melody side and a set of cello strings for the bass side.

Per I have two of these half fretless with 6 and 6. The fretless bass side adds an expressive difference that must be experienced. Playing in tune can be tricky but worth the effort.

I was talking to Tony Levin @ Roxy&Dukes last week and told him about my frettless Ironwood. He said he tried a half-fretless and couldn't play it tune! (I didn't tell him I can't play it in tune either).

PS.

My partner has given her endorsement for me to get a savings plan together for a half fretless NS. So that's a good sign....

Android, if Tone 11 has trouble playing it in tune, I think I will similar beer and skittles X 1000. I know it's going to be fun getting there. I've decided to get myself a loaner for a 4 string fretless meanwhile.

Cheers

Enjoyed your reference to Tone Eleven
In my experiences with my Half fretless, though difficult to play in tune, it's very forgiving.
And the expressive tone is so wonderful. Good luck
