Another gem from my quick scan through was on the subject of capturing the sound of your Stick for recording Apparently it's very important to position the mic carefully to ensure you can pick up the acoustic sound of the instrument! I also noticed the name of Eddie Van Halen popping to several times. Not just AI, but poorly trained AI (& not going to get better if output like this gets accepted by the requestor).

Re: New Book - How to play Chapman Stick
I am pleased to announce that the next Interlochen Stick Retreat will feature the teachings of Stick maestro Ezra Dylan. As it turns out, this is a real boost for Interlochen as Mr Dylan will also be teaching the acoustic guitar retreat, acting techniques workshop, adult choir camp, chamber music camp, choral conducting institute, creative writing workshop, flute ensemble, symphonic band camp, ukulele workshop, violin fundamentals course, string orchestra retreat, renaissance music retreat, music theory studies, and piano/keyboard basics. Mr Dylan will also be handling all of the organizational duties and social events leaving me free to sit home and twiddle my thumbs.

I dug around a bit and actually managed to find a photo of Ezra Dylan.

Apparently it's very important to position the mic carefully to ensure you can pick up the acoustic sound of the instrument! I wouldn't knock it until you've tried it... apparently the "acoustic" guitar part from the Jane's Addiction song, "Been Caught Stealing" was a mic'ed up, unamplified electric guitar - meaning, they mic'ed the electric guitar near the neck and didn't amplify the guitar itself. This technique might work well for Stick - a nice tube condenser or ribbon mic positioned near the pickup housing, above the strings. Add a vintage tube compressor and you're good to go.

I'd say most solid bodied electric guitars, played in the way guitars usually are, probably generates a louder acoustic sound than a Stick played in the usual way? However, maybe it might work. Would probably require a Stick stand and a very quiet room? Probably not the ideal first recording technique for a beginner to try?
