More on the FET Stick Preamp...
Not to step on Japhlet's business, but I work for a small company that makes a variety of digital audio products... http://www.entechnology.com . I just showed the preamp design to my engineer, and he said that we could whip out some of these in a little better enclosure, with rechargeable batteries, possibly with a gain control, and do it all on a circuit board (vs. the "breadboard" design) for not much money. Would there be any interest if we could put some of these together? Just feeling it out, this looks like a nice, inexpensive alternative to the StepABout. Thoughts? Kris

Make that very interested.

I think this is a good idea. However, you should probably make sure that the licensing issue is clear. Here is the link to the original circuit design: http://till.com/articles/GuitarPreamp/index.htmlThe circuit is quite famous among the DIY crowd and is referred to as the "Tillman Preamp". There are other circuits that have the potential of being good, cheap Stick preamps and I intend to make prototypes of them all this summer. Should I share the links to those circuits too? -Eric Kris wrote: Not to step on Japhlet's business, but I work for a small company that makes a variety of digital audio products... http://www.entechnology.com . Re: More on the FET Stick Preamp...
Agreed, I've emailed Don Tillman to make sure there are no license infringements. I'm also going to play with resistance values to see if I can specifically tailor each channel to the two sides of the Stick. Otherwise I don't see any reason to mess with what works. I'll let folks know when I hear from Don.
I'm assuming that Japhlet got permission to sell his version?

Forgot to mention, Eric, if you'd like to brainstorm regarding your other circuit ideas, definitely email me, I'd love to talk more.

Just an FYI, Don Tillman gave me his blessing, there is no patent of any sort, he said to have fun with this and use it however we wish. This'll be fun!

Re: More on the FET Stick Preamp...
If there is room in the enclosure, a headphone jack would be sweet to make a mini practice amp. Personally, instead of rechargeable batteries, I'd prefer a Boss style dc plug.

Re: More on the FET Stick Preamp...
I sent a PM to Kris and we will start working on some cool possibilities and let the forum know what we come up with. Here's a list of what I would like and what I intend to do once my semester is over. That's just the beginning. I intend to document everything I come up with and put up a DIY tutorial for everyone. Kris and his company might be able to offer them too. Cool... -Eric
