Substitute for flight case
Stick.com does not have hard cases, has not had them for a while and does not anticipate getting them soon, as far as I can tell. I'm looking for an alternative hard case for a Railboard. Note that I do not yet have said board; the locked economy hurts SE too. The length is listed on the site: 46 1/8". Can someone tell me the depth of the instrument? The case must hold the stick with the belt hook and sufficient padding, which means most repurposed cases are probably too shallow.

Re: Substitute for flight case
I found a site that has everything you need to make a case. I started pricing out the hardware for a case and was up to $200 before I even got to the laminate for the actual "box". Here's a link if anyone is interested. To be fair, I'm sure this is economical if you're actually trying to build out equipment cases for an entire band that's going on the road, but for a single hard-shell case, it's pretty pricey. https://www.diyroadcasesstore.com/Being a DIY kinda guy, I'd love to make a case. I've seen tutorials for building a "tweed" guitar case. Those look promising. It'd be cool to make a "tweed" case for a Stick!! A web search comes up with a pretty good assortment of suppliers using "luggage hardware" as the search term. Edit to add: I've been playing with some designs for a wall rack and/or floor stand for my Stick when it arrives, and that depth info would be handy, so if anyone has that dimension...

Re: Substitute for flight case
Yes. Case hardware is stupid expensive, unless you're buying in bulk for numerous case builds, of course. Two years ago I built my own pedal board. I was going to build a case for it with some leftover 1/2" Oak ply from a job, plus some spare sound-foam for the interior. I priced out the hardware at over $300 before shipping. So I held off for about a year. It was fun to build and I love the end result (I had my daughter create her own wood burn art...I said "make anything that represents sounds"). If I had built this for someone else, all materials, labor, and original decor, I would have had to charge over $750 CAD...for a case! Crazy. If you do go about this, try TCH Hardware - https://ca.tchweb.com/ - A Canadian company with warehouses in the US too. Very good people to deal with. Just not cheap.

Re: Substitute for flight case
That is really nice, Brian! After building three guitars, I have two alder guitar blanks in the shop, and have considered building another Tele from one of them, but installing humbuckers to contrast with the Tele I built using the traditional single-coils. I've seriously considered a wood-burned (technically "pyrography") design. That turned out really nice on that case! I can't tell if this is pyrography, or if it was drawn with pen & ink (or maybe even henna since it's a reddish color) but I always thought this, with what appears to be a watercolor or acrylic wash is just stunning!
