I wonder if it might be possible to mount a cello (or double bass?) end pin on a Stick?

They usually fit into the bottom of the instrument body, but maybe they might fit into some sort of 'L' bracket attached where the Stick belt hook usually goes?

Does anyone know how much a cello (or double bass) weighs compared to a Stick?

Are Cello 'end pins' adjustable? It might be awkward if they are not. The sitting and standing positions would be different.

I had thought that they fitted into a thin(ish) sheet, hence my 'L' bracket thought. However, I'm now wondering if they actually fit into a larger hole, with that wider bit fitted like a cork in a bottle?

If so an alternative to an 'L' might be a solid (wooden?) block screwed to the back of the Stick with suitable diameter hole.

Or dispense with the usual fitting and have a lengthways hole through the block for the 'pin' itself to slide through with a 'grub screw' to hold it at the desired length?

Not as stiff as your tripod leg, but hard to guess how stiff is stiff enough?

Yes, it's fitted like a cork. In this video someone is replacing an end pin.

She gets around to removing the existing pin just before the 3m mark.

Giving this some further thought I think a significant issue would be length. The cello pins I've found are around 20" total length some of which is of no use (i.e. always on the 'wrong side' of the fitting). That might be enough for sitting use, but doesn't seem adequate for standing use?

The double bass pin I found was shorter still, which makes sense (the bottom of the DB will be even closer to the floor).

Oh. Well. Scrap that idea.

The 'spare' camera tripod I have doesn't have square' legs. The legs are 4 sided, but the sides aren't flat thus complicating any clamping arrangement.

my vote is still to contact someone who is a luthier, as my set up on the Megatar which I posted here on page 3 works just like an endpin on a double bass or cello, except that the pin slides through the block which picks up the inserts on the back of the instrument.

I'm pretty confident someone could build you one that would pick up the same bolt pattern as where your belt clip mounts.

Sticks are expensive, and rightly so as they are the best.

If you are going to design something like a monopod or something, it has to mount securely as you don't want to drop your Stick or have an accident with it.

Big GW, I agree. I chose to use 3M VHB tape and two small screws as added security. The two screws are only there to keep the Very High Bonding tape in place. This tape has been used on horse trailers instead of rivets. It has been used to fasten the cosmetic exterior panels on huge buildings in Dubai.

I first saw the VHB tape at a Fabrication Trade show in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. They fastened two metal panels together and had a swinging 10 lb. sledge hammer set up to impact the panels as a test. When I tested this setup, the entire trade show occupants sudden spun their heads around, as it sounded like a bomb went off. I severely dented the two panels and the VHB tape showed no signs of separating.
