I like using parallel wet/dry paths and custom impulse responses. I also like using the LA Studio compressor at the end of my pedal chain.
The LA Studio Comp compressor is placed at the end of the signal chain to take advantage of its unique contribution to the tone, even when its not compressing. This helps glue the effects together and provides a good controlled signal into the main amp. The effect is subtle, but does contribute to the overall tone.

New HX Stomp XL officially released as of today. Line6 saw a need as people were often adding extra controllers and switches to their Stomps. Now all that basically gets combined into one unit. To me it sort of looks like a Stomp had a baby with a Boss MS-3.
One of the best features I can see is that you get a far more flexible layout for the footswitches. Also, all the I/O is moved to the front (top?) panel, so you can place other pedals on either side much easier, not as much of a cable octopus as the regular Stomp.
I'm thinking that one could set up a pretty effective small board with a Stomp XL with a couple extra pedals for stereo delays and reverbs, since the other DSP-hungry effects besides amp+cab blocks.
Checking the limitations through Helix Native, if I run two amp+cab blocks I couldn't use the Poly Sustain (Freeze). It's nice to be able to use one on each Stick signal path on a full Helix Floor (or Helix Native, in this case) for doing big pads then soloing over it. Alternatively, running a pair of EHX Freeze pedals externally wouldn't be nearly as seamless. I have yet to find any pedals similar to a Freeze, much less any that are in stereo.
Helix is such fantastic platform, and since the latest update it seems really mature and fully-featured. My only gripe is that I wish they would release a smaller unit that has the full DSP power of the Helix Floor. There are a couple of external pedals I want to pair up with Helix hardware, like a Beat Buddy. Combining the full Helix Floor with other pedals takes a pretty giant board to accomplish that.

That was the reason I returned the Helix Stomp. I tried it out and it's a great pedal. The sound quality and the selection of amps and effects are exceptional. But I had hoped to use it as a stand-alone solution with my Stick. But I found that two effects chains with amp simulations are too resource-hungry, there was no DSP left for interesting combinations of effects. Maybe we'll have to wait for the next generation...
