Dang! When I saw a thread that mentioned pictures of "lap bars" I was totally jazzed...then I realized I got it wrong.

I have tried to fab up a lap bar twice and neither time did I care much for it. What I would like to try is a sort of floor spike. My neighbor has been a woodworker for longer than I have been alive and he has agreed to turn a prototype floor spike for me.

Whether it works or is a disaster, I will post pics. I have to get the wood and get it to him and from there it should be a week or so and it will be ready.

I never found the lap bar (of any design) to be as comfortable as simply using a very loose belt, the only function of which is to keep the instrument from slipping of the front of the chair.

The belt hook can rest on the chair between your legs, so there's no weight on your legs, and the instrument has more "freedom of movement" than when it's on a bar.

If I were to use a bar it would need to have a dip in it so the instrument wasn't too high. Love the wooden coat hanger idea!

Just my 2 cents.

So I picked up a long belt. Comfortable and easy. I loved the romantic idea of using my hands to fashion something out of wood...but the belt completely does the trick.

Cheers

John

apparently an older style wooden coat hanger can do the job. Has anyone tried it?
Yes, I have one such here. Works just fine. But I prefer to stand up playing, at least until I get good enough for sitting down. I need to keep my entire body 3D movable in order to master the two hands independence tasks I keep torturing my scattered brain with.
