Re: Who's Better?
That's like asking what supercar is the best. It depends on the individual taste.

Re: Who's Better?
You see, that's one of the beautiful aspects of music: it's not a competition.. You might easily find out who is the fastest runner (though I would expect a New Yorker to choose not to run), and I know who the best one with a frisbee is, but with music you can only decide what is best for you.

Re: Who's Better?
Poll incomplete, you forgot Frank Boxberger and TT. What's the purpose of such a poll? As stated, music is really not a competition.

Re: Who's Better?
Music frequently is competitive. Bluegrass musicians tend to be very competitive. I think most of us strive to be "better" on our instruments, thus competing with ourselves. If you make music for sale then you are competing with all the other artists out there for the $ of the consumer. There are typically many instrument competitions throughout the world each year (like the GFA annual international guitar competition). Preparing for a competition can certainly be motivating for personal practice/improvement. Come to think of it an annual "String Tapping Instrument" competition could be quite effective for prompting the Chapman Stick. Just Sayin' Happy New Year BTW

Re: Who's Better?
You can have a competition, which can help to publicise the music itself, such as the Leeds International Piano competition, which is a few miles up the road from me.
However, the results are highly subjective, and are to recognise and promote new talent, not to try to compare existing renowned artists.
I find the artists above play in different styles, complementing each other. How could you compare Vladimir Ashkenazy and Glenn Gould, and Bill Evans, and say which one is best?
The danger in a small community like ours, especially with the medium of text, where misunderstandings are so common, is that it will not promote good, but create ill feeling.
So I won't vote.
