I'm pretty much always sitting down in front of the laptop to record.
Sometimes I plug into my Roland Mobile cube (<3), maybe with headphones depending on the hours. Other times I just plug it straight into the laptop to record. If it's quiet enough I also just go through the motions unplugged, it's very Zen that way.

Always plugged in. Usually standing. Today even dancing...
...as I was practicing bass line grooving with a drum machine going through speakers a bit away in the same room. I worked on dragging vs pushing the beat and to do "long bows" of subtle variation in duration and attack. Played two hand tapping on the bass side while occasionally hitting some short ghost notes on the melody side, melody side assigned a sixths triplet delay line going out through a LFO wiggled filter cutoff.
