Post Want opinion on used Stick I think I'll buy
Hey there. I just found this stick for sale and am planning on picking it up on Thursday unless you guys give me a good reason not to. :-) It'll be my first stick and though it's not the bamboo/ACTV-2 I wanted, it'll get me started now.

As I understand it with the Stickup I'll need a preamp?
I can guess that a twisted neck would be very bad - is there anything else that couldn't be easily fixed by Emmett?

Thanks!

Jump on it! That's a great instrument for a really surprisingly low price! It has all the newest features; Rails, Flaps, truss rod, etc. You couldn't ask for much better than that. And the padauk is a gorgeous wood! I wouldn't worry about a twisted neck or anything like that. This Stick has all the components that make maintenance and setup easy. Go for it!

Cool, Brett, thanks! I'd definitely appreciate that. I'll be driving to pick it up but I'll be in the area anyway.

Woohoo!!

Looks really nice! Paduak wood? Looks very similar to my Paduak Grand in color - and it seems to get better looking as it ages.

If I might ask - about where in PA are you going to be?

Dave

Great lookin' Stick, nice find! I been hunting for a good deal on a 10 string too, lemme know if you change your mind and decide not to get it

But what's all this about stickups needing a pre-amp?

You can play a Stick with a Stick-up pickup just fine without a pre-amp but it sounds much richer when played through one. There have been other discussions about this in other threads that talk about it in a more technical way.

Thanks '88. I've seen several threads dealing with the pros and cons of various pre-amps, it's nice to know that these are just personal choices rather than requirements.

This forum is great :D
