Still preparing a lecture I've been asked to do later in the year, I have some doubts about some facets of the Stick history. Feel free to share your knowledge, and maybe Emmett himself will chime in for some further clarifications or stories? Here are my main questions, in no particular order.
1. What's the year of the end of the Graphite Stick production? 2. Which Stick prototype is the older one : the one with the body or the black one closest to the actual Stick we know? (my guess is the older one is the one with the body) 3. How "big" was the band Kittyhawk at the time? There are plenty of vinyls available on the Discogs marketplace at a very low price, suggesting it could be a big seller at the time (the band seems quite unknown in Europe). 4. The book from Jim Reilly is mentionning that Emmett worked on a film score in the 70's. Which one? 5. Are there some audio snippets available from the days Emmett played with Tim Buckley?
Thanks for your inputs, I’m sure more questions will appear...

Kitty hawk was relatively well known in the southern ca. Area during that time. They played at the venerable baked potato in studio city and other places in so cal quite frequently. I saw them a fair amount live and their live sound was very good. I’m familiar with Their first two albums , and they are worth a listen. There is also a pbs special ( an in studio concert ) that they appeared on. You can find clips of it on YouTube

Re: Questions about (to, as well) Emmett
BR: What's the year of the end of the Graphite Stick production?
EC: From Jan. 2001 to Sep. 2013.
BR: Which Stick prototype is the older one : the one with the body or the black one closest to the actual Stick we know? (my guess is the older one is the one with the body)
EC: Yes, I built the long scale, 9-string guitar with the tablespoon shaped body out of one solid piece of maple at the SAC HQ Air Force woodshop in 1964, I'm pretty sure, and it became my first two-handed tapping instrument in Aug. 1969. Then in 1970 I built the bodiless "Electric Stick" out of a single piece of black and brown Macassar ebony with violin peg tuners and the pickups housed in a box facing down close to the strings.
BR: How "big" was the band Kittyhawk at the time? There are plenty of vinyls available on the Discogs marketplace at a very low price, suggesting it could be a big seller at the time (the band seems quite unknown in Europe).
EC: They made three LP albums and Paul also recorded a Christmas album. Kittyhawk was very polished and musically advanced for its time and also spontaneous with solo improvs. They toured the US off their 2nd and 3rd albums. They had definitely taken off but only got 30 feet high (Paul is related to one of the Wright Brothers). Why they didn't become an international sensation (and fly the Atlantic), I'll never know.
BR:The book from Jim Reilly is mentionning that Emmett worked on a film score in the 70's. Which one?
EC: I vaguely remember a documentary about dogs. My "score" only later developed into "Back Yard" as on my Parallel Galaxy album and on the director's cut of Dune.
BR: Are there some audio snippets available from the days Emmett played with Tim Buckley?
EC: Yes, it was a 4-piece band with Tim improvising vocals and playing his 12-string guitar, Maury Baker on drums with Roto-toms and tympanies, Glenn Ferris on trombone and me on The Electric Stick ebony board.
