Given my limited practice time, it's just Stick. Adam Neely put it quite well: "If you play Chapman Stick, well, that's what you're gonna do with your life."

I play in two duos each with a guitar/vocalist. Classic Rock mostly. I play basslines and sing backing vocals.

I've been laid up for twelve weeks with a busted Achilles tendon, and I actually practiced a little conga also, which was lovely. But mostly I used my extra spare time to get in more Stick practice.

I figured out some right hand parts to play lately to cover rhythm guitar parts while my guitarist in one of my ensembles plays solos. And I have fleshed out quite a few bass lines into triad work with the left hand.

I return to work Tuesday, sadly.

yeah I hear ya, squeezing in the time can definitely be a issue with Stick or any instrument. Sounds like you’re doing nicely. Looking forward to seeing a video, I like seeing the Stick being played in a group with different instruments . So many of us are solo.

Just Stick? Emmett came up with a new playing method, (after abandoning-how many techniques?), and DESIGNED AND BUILT an instrument to explore this "Free Hands" concept. Phew. I'm glad he did all the work - I just had to buy one. I have to add, when I got it in '84 I was in a band and I stuck with the bass, maybe playing one tune in a set with Stick. After that band, the only times I've played with others has been Stick. But I also have to add I basically took a "vacation" from music between '88 to '08. (untreated alcoholism). Yeah, I disappeared for 20 years. So being 64 years old now, the rest of my time alive will be Just Stick.
Gotta pick yer battles...
Thanks fingers for a good topic.

Primarily I play guitar and bass, recently started learning Stick on an SG12 I got. Hoping to pick up a Grand Stick at some point in the near future to get that lower bass tone.
