Fair enough. Like I said about those who should be OK with stuff like this -"you know who you are". In the mid 1960s I screwed up a number of classic guitars myself before I figured out what I was doing and eventually learned that even when you do know how to do it - it's not OK to drastically modify and then strip down and refinish 1952 Les Paul Gold Tops or rout out and add extra pickups and switches to a one-of-a-kind prototype 1958 Gibson Futura which was a forerunner to the Explorer.

Im pretty handy when it comes to building garages and changing toilets, but for the Stick, no thanks. I may tighten a machine head, but will never take my Stick apart.,Im just not comfy with that level of brain surgery.
Good thread Russell.
Dbro......I prefer to boil people in oil first, they pull apart easier, like a nicely cooked rib rack. De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da.
cheers, kev

lol I don't know that I will be ripping apart my new 12 str when it comes in, but yeah... 1 part bravery, 1 part curiosity, 1 part mechanical aptitude, 1 part foolishness...
Having the right tools; critical.

This was a brand new guitar, right off the rack. I brought it home and decided to fine tune it. It sounds much better now. No regrets.

WerkSpace wrote: I not only take my stick apart, I do all my own fret work. My stick is over 30 years old and some frets were worn down. ... The end result was definitely worth the effort. No more buzzes and I can lower the strings to my preference. That's great for those that can do that work. Its great that you can do that. Level frets are so important to having a Stick that functions as it was intended. I am positive there are a good number of Sticks out there in need of fret work and their owners either don't know it or they don't want to send it to SE for some reason (cost, being without an instrument ...) Good going! I'd rather play a dirty Stick with leveled frets than a clean one in need of fret work ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif)

Man, I've had it for almost two months now and haven't even had the urge to put it thru guitar rigg let alone taking it apart.... LOL I've seen Greg's video on truss rod adjustment so I'de be prepared for when that day comes, That's as far as I went ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif)

I'll fill the Playstation gap and say I've done that. That was a part of the thing I liked doing right before music became a thing I did. I gave my Stick a nice fresh coat of oil several months ago, and like Eric I also took a bunch of hardware off (lest the bridge). It was a very nice feeling, Like it was new again. I should probably do it again in the near future if I want the dye to stay put. It's just irritating to find a nice dust free area to let the coats dry, and also not be tempted to touch the thing. ![Image](http://www.stickist.com/gallery/pic.php?mode=small&pic_id=973) I'll agree with above posts too on only doing it if you're confident and careful. In my case I needed to mess up some other stuff over the years (mostly cheap stuff thankfully) before I would have been confident doing something to a beloved and expensive object.
