railboard active mode cable wiring
I had a spot of bother with an R-Block recently that seemed to coincide with my first use of active mode, and now I'm paranoid about trying active mode again. Here's what I observe with a multimeter in the TRS->dual XLR cable setup:
* Tip to pin 2 bass * Ring to pin 3 melody * Side to pin 1 both * No other continuities
Could someone confirm that these connections are what I should see? Or point me to where I could find this information? I checked the R-Block manual but there's no wiring diagram. Thanks!

Re: railboard active mode cable wiring
Can anyone help?
I have not the original cable TRS->XLR Cable and all adaptors i tried ended in a horrible signal/noise ratio. So... I think this is an important information.
Also it seems that there is a difference between european and US cabling in this case - I saw 2 different connections in google...

Re: railboard active mode cable wiring
Since the Railboard uses a custom splitter cable, it would be best to confirm the pinout/wiring of those connections with Stick Enterprises.
As far as standard connections... TRS Tip - positive Ring - negative Sleeve - ground
XLR Pin 1 - ground Pin 2 - positive Pin 3 - negative (Some equipment manufacturers use a different pinout, and when using XLR for unbalanced connections pin 1 and 3 can also be connected.)

Re: railboard active mode cable wiring
Claire, Pin 1 is typically the ground or shield. Pin 3 is typically the negative and is grounded for unbalanced connections.

Whoops! Yes, thanks Dean. Just corrected my post.
As I noted - best to check with SE for specifics.

Thanks for the replies. Claire, your general info is at least consistent with what I observe, and I agree SE is my next stop.

We have a fantastic tech crew at work, lucky for me they handle all the wiring. Probably should have confirmed with them before posting! pretensions wrote: Thanks for the replies. Re: railboard active mode cable wiring
Update of little substance: I've emailed SE a few times about this question but I haven't heard anything back yet. I'll give them another week to reply to my latest request, and then I'll take the plunge and try active mode anyway.
To satisfy an extra measure of paranoia, I measured the phantom power in my input XLRs and everything is fine--not a surprise, as these channels have been driving mics for years.
