Nice! Did you have to alter the action from its stock settings to get it low enough to tap?

Re: Free Hands on an Acoustic Guitar
Thank you! The action on the X10 is quite low and I did not have to adjust anything. I am using a THR10II amp and added a little compression which helps too.
Wow Jeremy! Any would be Stickist who wants to know what to practice while waiting for a Stick will be directed here . There is a lot of tapping going on in the guitar community, especially on acoustic guitars. Almost always, and including myself the technique is a combination of guitar playing and 'some' tapping. Making a complete piece of music that is 'successful' with Free Hands is no small feat. You make it look easy.
I am a big fan of the Yamaha THR series but have not upgraded to the new one. Are there any big differences?
Thanks.

Re: Free Hands on an Acoustic Guitar
Thank you so much! I find that using Free Hands is the best way to tap on the acoustic guitar. You have much less strain on the wrists and easier access to the neck. I want to figure out how to work in some strumming and plucking.
The THRII has several advantages over the original model (which I loved).
- The built in rechargeable battery lasts longer than using rechargeable double AAs in the older model making it much more convenient to move around and use anywhere for a long period of time.
- The built in wireless receiver, in conjunction with a Line 6 Relay transmitter, works really well with all the Stick models I have as long as you use the right adapter. For the Railboard, Grand Stick, and Alto, I use a stereo to mono adapter. I use the adapter that came with the Line 6 Relay for the NS Stick. In addition to Free Hands, you now have Free Legs! I cannot get this system to work with any of my acoustic-electric guitars. At some point I will figure out a way around it (any tips would be appreciated).
- They upped the power rating and improved the stereo imaging in addition to adding more amp models and three varieties of each amp model. The effects sound fantastic.
- there is an iOS bluetooth app which makes editing the sound, including access to compressor/limiter and separate reverb and delay settings, much easier. The previous model required a connection to a computer.
- You can hook up the THRII directly to an iPhone or iPad from the USB connector on the amp and record directly to video.
Of course, this all works in mono but it still sounds great. It is by far the most used piece of gear I have.
Back when we had open mics, I routinely take the THRII and run a direct out to the PA. The last open mic I played, I was the "bass" player for a friend during his set and they ran out of inputs. I just used the THRII on its own and it sounded great.

Re: Free Hands on an Acoustic Guitar
Novel! Not just tapping on a guitar but FREE HANDS! That was Step One in the invention of our Beloved Instrument! Then it was "I need more strings! And a new tuning method! Throw everything out!" My dog comes in and when the Stick is plugged in and sitting in the stand, when he starts wagging his tail hits the strings, looks around and goes, "What was THAT?" Then just keeps on wagging. My playing doesn't impress him either...

Thank you! I think my dog is impressed when I stop playing and take her on a walk.
