Big Bang is really inspiring! Great to be able to watch the entire performance. To me this captures a lot of what is exciting with the Stick when comparing it to other instruments, like for example the Eigenharp http://bit.ly/9w73ci. Comparing these videos it becomes obvious that the Stick admits a more musical expression, probably due to the physical contact with real vibrating strings rather than the Eigenharp's push-pull-drag button/slider based interface. Not saying an interesting Eigenharp player may come around in the future, after all none of these guys have had a chance to practice for more than a year.

"Big Bang" always gets me! What a night it was, at the Gaslight in San Jose, the highlight of the "World's (largest) Stick Seminar" put on by Bob. Greg's pent up frustrations, grappling with an inadequate sound board for the room and for recording, were let loose in one "big bang". If I remember right, the hired sound man was a no show.

Thank for the kind comments. I was really enjoying that particular Stick at the time. It was the first to contain all the elements I had wanted on one instrument, Rails, linear inlays, hybrid pickup, longer scale, ten strings, and this was my first performance with it. But there was more to the story as Emmett mentioned...

Oh, he was there, he just couldn't figure out how to set up his PA to accommodate all the players, so I ended up having to run sound and logistics for the whole show (except when I was playing, thanks to Tom Griesgraber's running sound for me).

The old theater had some horrible ground buzzing, etc, so most of the other recorded audio didn't really come off. But I've gotten better with my noise reduction plug-ins, so I should revisit it, I think.

Fortunately I had the intermission to focus on getting my head in the right musical space. Combine the agitation of all the frenetic activity with my sheer excitement at this new instrument, and I don't wonder at what came out. Not a perfect performance by any means, but definitely a true expression. Thanks again for jumping up in the beginning and turning off the drummer's snare...
