Riverrat Sorry I mentioned it earlier in the month in a different post but maybe I got The message mixed up sorry. I may not have given a definitive date There is no Deadline to do any song. You can add your version anytime in the future. Im hoping to post mine today but its far from being ready.

My short version of just the beginning of Bohemian Rhapsody

Its a work in progress. A few weeks is not enough time for this tune. The future Songs of The Month should be a bit easier. Ill keep working on this as I like it. I can stumble thru to the end but its painful to listen too. LOL Ill come back to this in the future. Im happy with the start of the tune Though. Funny how once you hit record things change in your head and your fingers no longer work. Im a perfectionist so posting this is hard for me but there can be much to be learned i suppose.

anyway hope you enjoyed this a bit anyway.

Rob

I can see where Rob was going with this one, and it is a good direction. As he said, this is quite an undertaking for a "song of the month". He is totally correct about the with/without camera deal, too. It's arguably more difficult than a live audience.

I agree. I think there's a slightly larger margin of error for what someone can really consider nailing a live performance. You just gotta eat your mistakes and keep rolling, maybe play it off as intentional if you can snag the rhythm or note pattern of the flub fast enough.

thanks Sagehalo and Josh. It normally takes me several months to get a song to the point where I can do it in my sleep and not think what’s the next chord coming up. And also to improvise my way out of a screw up. At every point where I mess up I rerun that part over and over. Building muscle memory so to speak. Recording sure shows where you need to work more. I tried playing along with the recording but that was too much as was the click track. Once I can play it with a click I feel I have it down. This wasn’t the case here.

It's all a process. Kind of like building a house, you can't add the nice trim around the windows until you've built on top of a good foundation.

I thought this was excellent! I could really hear how much effort went into this, and yeah it's a bit rough in a spot or two, but jeez! Really well done, friend!

The tough part is that there is a ton of stuff going on in both hands harmonically, and making those chord changes while keeping track of the voice leading is a lot to do. Mentally, it pretty much becomes "too much" and something has to go whether it's a moment of concentration or maybe the rhythm, whatever. Getting the notes isn't a problem, it's the other things - time, rhythm, accent, articulation, fingering, etc etc All of those add a new dimension of difficulty to whatever I am working on, and as such I need to make a decision on what it is I really want to achieve within the context of said tune in question...

I personally find that the level of what I can play comfortably is quite a bit lower than sometimes what I am capable of doing on my "best day" full speed, etc etc So what I try to work towards daily is getting that "base ability" just a bit better, stronger, more articulate, more deliberate, focused, etc etc

heheh I guess what I'm really trying to say is that for me, I recognize that my playing will be terrible, so what can I do to make "terrible" a little bit better than last time...

Again, really awesome job my man! A lot of hard work, and I can't wait to see what other people's versions are like!
