Classic live recording & photos:Emmett & Les DeMerle, 1973
Hi Everyone, I'm so happy to be able to present to you a live recording of Emmett and drummer Les DeMerle, jamming hard in 1973... Dan Chapman took some great photos of these two improvising powerhouses in action at The Cellar, a Los Angeles club where they often opened the show on Monday nights, followed by Les's big band. Click the link below to check out the music and view the slideshow... http://www.stick.com/artists/artistfeat ... 08chapman/

Excellent. Great youthful creative sonic energy. A bit of history.

Righteous! My question to Emmett is - what's in the mug between the amps...? This is a great bit of history Dan, thanks for sharing!

I don't think there's any doubt, it's COFFEE!!! It was great being there. This is the next best thing. In some of the shots, you can see my silver Tiltall tripod that I bought for college at the time. Still have it and use it all the time now. This represents a select sampling from over 150 frames taken at Les' club, The Cellar.

Good one, Dan. Had to be coffee that night (wouldn't do that now). Thanks for being there so often in those early days with camera in hand and graphic art skills. And thanks for rediscovering those negs at the most opportune time.
Greg got the ball rolling on this project and saw it through from start to finish. Many thanks Greg, also for the digitally remixed and improved sound.
Gotta thank Les too, just in case he happens to read this thread. He put his faith on the line, body and soul.

I love this music, and I'm floored that you had been playing the technique for less than 4 years at this point. For everyone else's information, it was just a two-track reel-to-reel, so I just cleaned it up a little... Such a lucky tape to have. Dan, your pics are amazing, bravo to the Chapman brothers!
