Re: Giant Steps - Stick Version
I applaud you for making a wonderful attempt at this Coltrane piece, regardless of what anyone else thinks. Bravo!

Scott, do you play live at all? Guitar performances count too.

Nice. You should start adding the Stick into the mix! No better way to progress than through the constant stress test of performance.

Re: Giant Steps - Stick Version
Totally liked the Stick version better. Totally! I used to play that (on bass) w/ a guitarist...make those changes stand out, on bass, at that speed? Whew! Great job Scott I don't care what anybody says. I say "Fuck". Guess some people never heard of non-keyboard. The whole idea (of that tune, TO ME) is to hear the changes without a chordal accompiantment. But WTF do I know.

Giant Steps - Stick Version
I applaud both the idea and execution. This reminds me of a heated thread on Facebook about cover songs. One camp thought covers needed to be carbon copies. Another thought one should make a cover your own. I think it depends on the context. If you are in a cover band and the audience expects a carbon copy then deliver a copy. Otherwise, explore and learn. I think you are clearly in the second context here and I enjoyed what you did with the tune.
