Hey Dean would this device be a good fit for the mod duo. I havent gotten a mod duo yet but Im thinking it needs more knobs. How do you control your mod while performing? Im just exploring options. The mod is in my future so keep this thread going guys.

So I am lucky, I know Dean and being ever so subtly he has encouraged the investigation of the
M-O-D but I have been reluctant because I have this belief that I am a "Hardware guy" .

Six in one, half a dozen the other right?... I always say "both" is the answer to conundrums and the M-O-D seems to be
just that, both...

So cool, this device could be the end-all if portability is a key requirement.

Just to note I am a long time Fractal user, three or four years worth and I can't say I am absolutely
in love, unfortunately. It has great tone but it is tedious to program and when it comes down to it I only
use about three sounds and then some derivatives of those sounds.

Also I have thought about and researched the Helix, a lot, and that machine is mighty cool especially the ability to change
sounds and have the trails from your previous sound "trail" into the other. But the Helix is
huge, another big slab of technology on the floor with a wonderful big screen to go with it
that can be read by aircraft ...Not to mention the price.

Here I come to save the day!

Good to know you Dean I wonder if you could answer a few M-O-D questions
that I could not find adequate answers for on the M-O-D forum:

1.) I know you are a (controlled) loop enthusiast, has there been a looper (that works) developed for the M-O-D? On the forum there was some talk about a 4-trk looper but it seems to have bugs...

2.) Computers , I will be honest, I kind of hate computers. Love them too, but...
My question is for a Mac and that I am running 10.6.8. If I upgrade my old software
will not work (I might as well get a new computer). I have not found that question
addressed on either the website or the forum so I assume it is not an issue, or is it?
Specifically, is there a OS threshold that the M-O-D works from or works best with?

3.) Last question: I think that you mentioned that you use a midi controller along with the
M-O-D, any information to pass along on how that works? Sorry if I missed that in a previous post.

Hey Dean thanks for the reply. I guess that I am not going to jump into the M-O-D
right now but it is good to know that my computer is not an issue. There is a ton of
information on this little but powerful piece of gear and I am still looking into it. Also glad that the Kickstarter platform worked for this. There seems to be a bustling little community swirling
around it and it is interesting that there are videos of people besides guitarists
using the M-O-D, ie flutes, keyboardist and electronic musicians....

What I was or am kinda hoping for is a looper/recorder that could be integrated so that
not only could you loop with the device (and probably a midi foot controller) but
also so that performances and loops could be saved and later downloaded
into a DAW. Just my thoughts .

As a beta user the MOD team will want you to report any bugs you may come across. You will need to be willing to perform manual updates to your DUO and the Footswitch... which is very simple and outlined at these links.



What makes the Control Chain so special?
I'm glad you asked!
*Control Chain is an open standard, including hardware, communication protocol, cables and connectors, developed to connect external controllers to the MOD. For example, footswitch extensions, expression pedals and so on.
Comparing to MIDI, Control Chain is way more powerful. For example, instead of using hard-coded values as MIDI does, Control Chain has what is called device descriptor and its assignment (or mapping) message contains the full information about the parameter being assigned, such as parameter name, absolute value, range and any other data. Having all that information on the device side allows developers to create powerful peripherals that can, for example, show the absolute parameter value on a display, use different LED colors to indicate a specific state, etc. Pretty neat, right?
