Post Hey dudes I need your help...
Okay, I've had a Gopro Camera for a bit, but I didn't have a way to input my DAW audio into the camera, until now. I am really excited, because now I can quit using my ISight Camera that's in my mac, and go with the much cooler, much more portable Gopro. Comes with weird fisheye effect...

Anyways, please disregard the shitty playing; Do you notice any audio clipping? The meters seem cool but I can swear that I hear some sort of crackling or fizz (lol besides my tone) Can y'all lend an ear? I really feel tempted to cut by about 2db, but I thought maybe I should ask...

Yep it's distorted. Turn down your source audio feeding into your GoPro. 40 years as an audio/video guy gives me a feeling it's never gonna be great. If it was me I'd record direct thru some high quality preamps or mic your cabs with high end dynamic mics like Sennheiser 421s or the like into the DAW and use the plain old audio from the camera for sync only and then use the hi-fi stereo audio trax during video post. It's an extra step I know but it's pretty easy in Final Cut or Premier or whatever you use to line up the sync tracks.

Ok, I did cut the input by about 2.5db and also tried a couple of ultra clean patches on the Helix and the AxeFX.
Tomorrow I will experiment with separating the audio from the clip after I have recorded it. And see just how bad it actually is compared to my DAW recording, and I will try and incorporate some drums too just to see what's what.

Thanks!

Awesome, having used both now, I strongly feel that having an external camera that you can set up for ideal angles and cool shots far outweighs using the computer camera. Having a dedicated camera will probably yield a higher quality image as well, since that's all it does and all it's supposed to do.

Yep. The GoPro absolutely kills the computer camera as far as fidelity goes. I just need to learn how to use it now haha

I use the Nikon V1 for videos. Amazing stereo mics and video quality.
With the FT1 lens adapter, it supports every lens made by Nikon.

Which of the v1 models are you using? I've been hearing wonders about those, plus they really are inexpensive....

Word! Right on, Captain! The built in mics in most video recorders are crappy, but they help so much for syncing it with the better-quality audio you took. And it makes drag and drop in Premier or Final Cut much easier to get right, because you can eyeball the peaks on the tracks and slide the new better quality one right below the camera mic version and then hit mute or delete when it's lined up.

I tried syncing audio to video without any guide track before and it really sucks. I never felt like I had it quite right, between attacks and visual lag.

Captain Strings (and others) have you all sorted here, Scott! And thanks guys for making me want a Go Pro, too! (My 14-year old daughter has been asking for one since Christmas when half her friends all got one!)

I've invested over $10k in Nikon lenses for my D700.
...but it doesn't shoot video.

So, along came the Nikon 1 V1.
It can shoot 4K video in short spurts.
It has the fastest auto-focus that I've seen to date.
It can shoot slow motion video as well.
With the FT1 adapter, it supports my $10k investment in lenses.
With it's 2.6 crop factor a 300mm lens becomes a 780mm lens with no loss of light.
This is an amazing feature. Inexpensive telephoto at low light.
I put together my own DIY camera rig. See attached photo.
With the LCD eye-piece, I can see if each individual hair is in focus.
