Post The Great Online "Stick Collaboration of 2016"
I know you guys can record, and I know y'all can play because I see and hear all kinds of music being posted all of the time...

I have a dream of hearing all the Stickists on Stickist.com on one track. Think of it as your Christmas present to Scott...

Who wants to submit some tracks so we can make a big Stickist.com tune that features a little bit from everybody? I think everyone does...

It ain't no thang, and your playing level doesn't matter. Talk is cheap, it is now time to throw down... cowardice is not an option, guys. Too busy? Pfft... I don't buy it. This is a quick thing you can do in an evening; press record while you are practicing and email it to me so we can have an interesting piece of music that everyone contributed to...

The rules;
Genre is rock/prog rock with fusion overtones.
Tempo is 110bpm.
The key is E min/Gmaj for the most part. E Harmonic minor parts also...
I have the main themes together and ready to go, but I need connective tissue.

Email me your dry as fuck, direct recorded, unprocessed, SEPARATE tracks (bass side/melody side) TELL me if you have deviated into a different key, or are using a different time signature. .wav or .aiff files please. jayesskerr@gmail.com

This is for fun, and as such, quick and dirty is the name of the game. Virtuosity is NOT required, and if your part is an effect driven bit (delay or whatever) let me know, we can make it happen.

Start now...

Just anything at all in Eminor/Gmajor? And 110BPM? How many measures?

(I think it's a great idea--just want to get the details right so we can all mesh).

Oh it will mesh. It will mesh...

As many measures as you like. If all you can muster is one measure, awesome. I will use it. I would like 8 measures if you are thinking 'thematically' and 16 measures if you are doing a solo. The backing is up to you, try to utilize harmonic structures that come from that basic note pool; Having said that if you want to use tritone subs, some modal interchange, passing diminished, whatever; go for it! It can be just little chunks of 'whateverness' . Some kind of random thing you made up, play it, record it and send it to me. simple, complicated, whatever. Record it and send it to me.

Once I have all of the parts, I will post it here along with a detailed description of what I did and y'all can comment not only on YOUR playing, but everyone else's.

If you don't play Stick, that's fine. Play Warr or your weiner or whatever. Linnstrument or keys? Okay. Cool. Rather play drums or touch guitar? Okay. fine. Want to play just a bassline type groove? A solo only? Okay. some weird looped thing? Okay. A midi sequence you created? Fuck off. lol Well, okay awesome that could work too. Play it and then send it to me. Send it to me. Send it to me. Send it to me. jayesskerr@gmail.com

Can't record? Fine get a metronome, set it to the tempo, play along, record with your phone/ipad, video or audio and SEND IT TO ME. This will be cool. jayesskerr@gmail.com

I will be right disappointed if you guys don't do this... No, wait... let me rephrase that, I will be right pissed off if y'all don't rock out on this....

And no, begging is not beneath me...

Thanks, dudes.

Great...now my resolve to stay at work for the full day just went out the window. So much for productivity.

Thanks a lot, Scott. :x

Ooo Good question. Let's shoot for "before Christmas" for this. I'd love to be able to have it all wrapped up and posted for the new year...

So yeah, let's say December 25th. (ish) lol

oh, I would like to but jeepers that seems like a ton of work for everyone... I was thinking "baby steps" at first, maybe get everyone re-psyched about music and have a thing we could listen to in our car, iPod, etc. Featuring everybody... and it will be fun to play, listen to and discuss.

Laid down 16 bars of the bass side last night on the Railboard in E minor. My son is going to film me recording the melody side.

I'll send you both tracks, plus the drum track. I think I'll do a little performance video of me noodling over the looping bass track, and make a video of that.

That way, you can do whatever with the two tracks, and then I can use it as well for a video and you don't have to worry about integrating video.

I need to start videotaping every time I record, but it's such a hassle setting up cameras and lights. My default workspace is dark and gloomy with huge monitors lighting up the studio and I have to do a bunch of crap to get enough light for actually filming.

I need to set up a Go Pro or an old iphone on a semi-permanent basis so that I'm always ready to record (film) my recording (music). And it's easy to forget stuff too and video helps show you what you did there.

But I'll hopefully have a melody and bass wave file set to give you by end of weekend. No effects at all, which is a bit scary sending the raw Stick sounds to you, so please make them sound really cool and awesome (and cover up all the many imperfections!)

And a pony too please, Santa!

You're welcome to use as little or as much of either the bass or melody side or both together or not at all. Or smush them with someone else's stuff. That sounds pretty cool actually, to mix people's bass and melody sides together--all at 110BPM and hypothetiically somewhere within the tonality of E Minor.

Have that to you soon! I hope you get a lot of participation. It's just a few minutes of our time (probably a lot of work for you though! Ha!)
