Gary Jibilian tells me that "Lord Vader," my newly ordered Ebony-stained Wenge-on-Wenge NS/Stick, is done and will ship out sometime soon. I've been trawling the intertubes looking for NS/Stick videos, and I can't find very many. So, help a NS/wanna-be brother out and post us all some rocking NS/Stick performances. If it's yours, all the better--upload some old stuff, if you'd not mind! I had to start with the awesome Don Schiff. Here is "Solo Peace" and Don rocking it out. And then... Don Schiff Solo_12_11_12 And one purty one by Burnis Heard Jr. Just My Imagination on the NS/Stick by Burnis Heard Jr Help a brother out with some NS/Stickiness! Thanks! |

Shearing) - NS/Stick |

So, the consensus on Facebook seems to be that Walery Rowinsky has a real NS/Stick and also a knock-off copy. Some of his videos are with the real one and some with the copy. Both sound great to my ears. It's been said that there's is no real product name for this type of a hybrid instrument other than calling it an "NS/Stick," but I think that's not the case: I see Stick calling them a "guitarbass" in all one word. I think it's printed on the attached metal label even. I know Russell Keating has an NS/Stick and also an instrument that he made himself, which is another 8-string guitarbass. But Russ's instrument doesn't have the headless stock on top like an NS, which is another distinctive feature of the NS/Stick. There's apparently a difference in the dot pattern as well. It seems that people are deliberately making NS/Stick clones or knockoffs, instead of just making their own version of a "guitarbass." I don't have a problem with you copying Ned and Emmett's design for your own personal use, but please don't call it an "NS/Stick." It's an 8-string guitarbass. I can make my own hollowbody guitar, but if I call it a "Les Paul," then it's not. It's a Les Paul knockoff or copy maybe. Just my own 2 cents. My own NS/Stick comes very soon and I can have more informed opinions. --Steve |
