Post NS string damper - any way to adjust?
The damper on my NS isn't quite doing it's job. Anything short of sending it back for a repair?

What is the exact issue?

I'm pretty sure you don't have to send it in.

I have problems with mine too. Because of the wide neck and small hands, I frequently hit the bottom of the damper and dislodge it from it's no-use position. It just doesn't seem very secure in the resting position. I use it mainly as a standard bass, so I don't have damper in use most of the time. I have tried to wedge a small piece of wood in the slot to keep it in place, but I still end up knocking it out of position. Not a big issue, but it does keep the open strings from sustaining..

There are a number of tricks; pipe cleaner, hair tie or extra piece of velcro. Also angling the
mute slightly so that some strings, usually the bass for me, are slightly more muted but the
little thing can angle either way. And
just getting a bass mute "Fret Wrap" that has a strap. Probably GC would have those
but also Sweetwater:

I just emailed with Gary Jibilian at Stick Enterprises.

There are two screws the hold/guide the damper in place.

Caution... Any changes are at your own risk... I take no responsibility if anything goes wrong...

If you want to keep the damper from never touching the strings you can tighten these screws a little so that they don't touch. Be careful not to tighten too much as to screw all the way through the neck or damage the damper.

If the damper is not touching the strings, and you want them to....
It's possible to loosen the screws. Unless the nut has been raised considerably then this probably won't do much...

Do these at your own risk...

I remember when I was starting and I would hear the strings ring a little when playing especially if I'm only working with one hand. The damper isn't perfect... Still need to do some damping with my hands. I sometimes use a gate in my signal chain to cut out noises...

Thanks for the advice, guys. :) I want it to damp more - it seemed to be doing a better job at first, but I've switched it up & down several times & now it seems like it's not really damping as much as I'd like. I'll have a closer look at it & maybe see if there's an adjustment to be made.
