For what it's worth, I've been spending some time with MIDI Guitar 2 lately and I quite like it. Anybody else using it?
Nima rezai has used it a lot. Check out his YouTube page.

I believe SteveS is. He mentioned it in this post.

IIRC, in a later post he'd solved the issue on the rosewood by adding a second piece of velcro damper?

Yup. I am. not an everyday thing, but it really seems to work surprisingly well. note that I'm using the iOS version. And yes, I'm using on both instruments now without any problem.

I have the midi guitar 2 on my I Pad . Not impressed with it. Maybe a cpu issue. All said and done 20 bucks. I like a nice e piano but a trumpet. Na . When I had the GR 55 with the divided pick up that worked ok but sold it . Friend of mine has an older Roland effects unit via his strat the sax sounds very original. For me a keyboard sound on stick , maybe, but horns na.

For reference I'm running an iPad Air 4th gen. Keep in mind too that I'm not a very discriminating musician, so what seems ok to me might be completely unusable to someone more proficient! :D

I think some of the new Boss pedals are really interesting in that (if I understand correctly) they treat the original audio signal as an oscillator. From reports I've heard this seems to work really well. It will be fun to watch as this technology develops over the next few years. Seems to me that AI has to find a niche here, as the real challenge is "decoding" the fundamental frequency, and getting expressive elements (dynamics, slurs, bends etc.) into the mix.

Aren't midi pickups available at SE?

Kevin

They seem to be discontinued. They are not listed at the SE website.

Wow, I'm out of touch.
Thankfully all three of my Wood Sticks and my Railboard have Roland GK's on the Bass side.

Post Re: FOUND !! looking for midi pickup
One thing that sounds kind of pedantic to bring up (but bear with me, there's a reason)
the roland GK pickups are NOT MIDI pickups - what I mean is there is nothing internal that does any sort of MIDI conversion they are hex(aphonic) pickups.
they are tiny individual humbuckers that handle each string as its own signal (hence the multi-core /multi pin cable - each string has it's own distinct wire)

Why does this matter? well not everything you can do with them is MIDI synthesis - the VG series, for example, isn't based around MIDI synthesis, or sysnthesis at all, it's fancy signal processing that deals with each string individually.
Roland also made (makes?) twin pedals for the GK system that were hex effects pedals, even the GR-300 was barely a synth (it was a syncing oscillator sort of similar to how an octave divider works)

Antares made the ATG-1 which allowed for antares level tuning tricks on individual strings (lapsteel players like them) - the VG can do that, but I don't think to the Antares level

there's a company called spicetone that even makes an analog hex fuzz (it can pan etc too) ...one interesting note about that is it adds a bass boost to the dry signal to make up for the typical positioning of the GK
that being said , this guy positions his GK further "neckward"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9zzvPmgHKo

hex processing can be pretty neat, like hex slow gear

just wanted to pont that out b/c it's nor always about midi conversion
