I like it, but it’s a matter of downsizing and what makes it easier to play live. I just bought a second Bose S1 and what I can do in stereo live with the Helix is amazing. I had this on a pedalboard and for what I’m doing in live performances this is overkill, and the Helix is much more musical for me. This has been the best looping pedal I’ve owned.

I’ve also learned a better approach of using shorter loops that I fade in and out with the Helix’s control pedal. I typically perform live with two instruments, a Stick and either one of my guitars or basses. The Helix can also count as a third instrument as I have patches that mimic a Moog Taurus foot synth. So besides loops, I can play backing synths with the Helix. Having an extra looper or any other pedal in use with the Helix is too much gear.

Potentially I may also sell off my HX Stomp for the lack of XLR outs and limited DSP. Haven’t decided yet. Where I play live changed where I have room to bring a larger piece of gear like the Helix. I had created a pedal board in order to fit in tight spaces.

Now that is a fascinating comment. Do you mean using the Helix foot switches as 'keys'?

Is it something you set up yourself?

A combination of what I’ve done as well as a purchased patch that duplicates a Pink Floyd song guitar and synth setup. Different chords are assigned to the footswitches

Here’s an example using the Pink Floyd patch, you can see what my feet are doing in the video:

Thanks. That was very interesting.

Searching around for Helix & bass synth I came across this guy Chad Carouthers doing some amazing things with a Helix!

He does also use it with bass & guitar (check out his youtube channel for that).

That's pretty cool.

A few years back I had an arranger keyboard and I hooked a midi controller up to it that could send the different (basic major and minor) chords of a key to the arranger, which would play an arrangement for that chord. It was actually pretty cool because it was like controlling a full band, but I found myself concentrating more on my foot hitting the right pedal for the right chord more than my playing... it was basically too much.

But fun.
