Re: Post on Reverb (not mine) - 1983 Rosewood 10-String #158
What's the asking price in USD? Reverb converts it into my local SEK and I can't find out how to view it in the original currency. It sure looks a little pricey to me...
It seems to have a crack in the string slot for the missing 1st melody string; was it dropped on that corner? Not fun if that part breaks.

It's priced almost like a new Stick. So yeah...I think it is a little too much.
But used Sticks are going fairly high these days. And Reverb has a huge audience that are willing to pay.

Nice old Stick. I see the bars in the back but no retro-fit truss. Too much $$$. (This is for anyone here.) Like Brian said, who knows on Reverb. I personally think $1500 is the max for an early 80's Stick. I have a '84 Ironwood and it's not going anywhere. I'd sell my car and walk before I sold my Sticks. Also, just though about this mine is #1212 and had the trapezoid plate and nickel screws they look like brass I think it's newer than '83.

That makes it only 60 older than my #1642 which is 1985 (confirmed by SE), so I agree '83 seems a bit early? Even with the '23% drop' that asking price is still ~60% more than I paid just months ago (in the UK, where Sticks are even rarer?).

Re: Post on Reverb (not mine) - 1983 Rosewood 10-String #158
I think android is in the ballpark. I just sold a 12 string grand for 3k think i paid 34. It was collecting dust, i was on my way to remove it from reverb, because i changed my mind, but, then i found out someone bought it. I am glad it found a home with someone who may use it more than me . I think it was on for a week. Newer sticks have newer tech and the ability to modify tunings. I have an older 12 string 34" scale, solid wood upgraded with 3d adjustable bridge, i love it with stickup. I love the screws on the nut as opposed to the split nut, it makes for interesting sounds on the low bass string, and adjustable to any string.
Anyway, I don't think it's a matter of money, if you buy a stick you either love it or, are indifferent to it. It takes time to learn the instrument.
if you're a collector, buy it, maybe someday it will be worth more money. If you're a player, buy it. Maybe then you will buy a new one. See what you can do with it, if it's not for you pass it on. It's not about money, it's about music, expression, fulfillment, and all around just feeling good about making noise with something. Rock and Roll.

Been down this road twice on Reverb selling an old instrument in great condition being the original owner. Notice he is the original owner, the instrument appears to be in nice shape, and he is open to offers. Always start high in price. Reason being is you get a lot of lowball offers from people looking to flip it. If the price is too high like he started with, keep lowering until you get it right. Reverb increased their fees since I last used it. Typically I go local for gear sales. Have three sources that are not bad with consignment fees. Selling a higher end guitar however is tough to find local buyers so that’s when I’ve used Reverb. I do like the platform, great advice from a few people on there interested in what I was selling. If anyone wants this Stick make an offer you think is reasonable. I’m not, nor do I know the seller, just talking from experience

Keeping up with those that were nice to me on Reverb, I messaged the guy about the one pic, and suggested he re-shoot the bottom view of the bridge with the missing string/suspected crack. He said it is not broken, and since it was not played he had not got around to replacing the string, and thanked me for the advice.
For what it's worth, where I previously lived I met a lot of Stick owners not on this board. I've seen a few old Sticks in worse shape being friends with Stickist Steve Osburn/Oz's Music. Was always a treat to see what would come through his store for consignment over the years. There are a lot of original owners who never bothered to learn how to play, nor have the knowledge most of us on this forum have.
