I've got an SP-13 that has served me so well over the years, but I'm downsizing and I'm ready to part ways with it if I can find it a good home.

Condition / Features
If you're not familiar with it, it's a high-quality stereo preamp made by Rane... a variation of the AP-13 acoustic guitar preamp that they customized for Stick. I purchased it new from SE more than a decade ago, maybe two, but it still sounds awesome. Plug in a single stereo input and you get two separate gains, separate EQ, separate effects loops and inserts, you name it. I've had many configurations with this, from a 12U all-analog rig to a laptop-based all-digital rig, where this preamp was the only thing analog in the rack. It has been well used, but still like-new in look and sound--always rack mounted with no scratches to speak of. Somewhere around here, I think I have my original hand-written purchase invoice from Stick Enterprises.

What I'm asking
I am extremely lazy when it comes to parting with gear. Typing this up requires so much 'saying goodbye' energy that I might have to nap for a while. I'd really like it to go to a Stick musician who will really benefit from it. If someone happened to live near Austin, Texas, you could probably come get it for free and I'd be thrilled to not spend my time taking pictures and finding a box and shipping it safely. That's how much I hate doing those kinds of tasks.

If you live in one of those other lovely parts of the world, and you want it, I'll probably muster up the energy to do those tasks, like sending you pictures, I just need to work up to it. I'll give it to the best offer, with suggested starting bid of $100 (to motivate me to overcome my fear of administrative tasks). Maybe it's too much to ask, but a blurb about how you'll use/benefit from having it will be considered as part of your offer.

Rane makes great Product. I did a little homework for the curious - you can mono out from channel A.
This is something someone should grab - and FAST. If I had expendable income I would grab it just to grab it. It's like a Swiss Army Knife.
It's like a StepABout-just without footswitches. But with more EQ-ing.
There's a couple of new guys waiting for Sticks that should grab this.
I would even offer to pay shipping.
I swear I'm almost talking myself into buying this - but my PODX3 Live is still serving me well.

For anyone considering this, I wrote an article for SE back in 2002 with some talk and detail about using one of these. It really is a nice sounding unit and they are incredibly clean. Rane makes quality stuff for sure.

Glenn Poorman! I remember you from way back then... Glad to see you actively contributing. I looked up when I purchased this thing, and it was 2003. I remember your article, and I'm sure it was an influence on my purchasing decision.


Yes, it has A and B outputs in back that each have XLR, balanced TRS out, or unbalanced 1/4", and next to those is a mono switch that makes them both output the same mixed audio. I mostly kept it in stereo, but I remember some gigs where I switched it. If it was in a full rack of gear, that switch was a little hard to get to, but it's the only push-button switch back there so I would usually just blindly feel around for it.

I was a fan and active user for about a decade (2001-2012?). I sold mine for downsizing purposes.

The Rane SP-13 sounds great and is extremely versatile, if rack-space sized gear works for you.

This one has sold. Sad to see it go, but it's got many years left for others to enjoy.
