Re: pedestal stand for the stick?
That's a very clever design. Was it difficult to determine just the right angle?

Re: pedestal stand for the stick?
thank you, inquiet.
i went with the "standard" 30 degree angle.. but as it worked out, i have 5 degrees available in either direction.
i'll post a few more shots later tonight. did some grinding at the shop today for a little "bling."

Re: pedestal stand for the stick?
hi kevin.
no chance of knocking it over unless i run into it at top speed.
the good news is... the base plate weighs less than you. the bad news is.... not by much.

Re: pedestal stand for the stick?
i know this design (or ANY stand) will be of little interest to most stick players... but for you few out there who want to know..
first off, it was just something i thought up. it's not endorsed by anybody. i'm NOT an engineer. just because i'm sure it's indestructible doesn't make it true. that being said, i wouldn't put my new stick on ANYTHING i didn't trust was kick-ass, rock solid. i know it doesn't LOOK safe. that's the cool illusion part.
1) the silver base is steel. it weighs 65 pounds. you can make it weigh as much or as little as you want, BUT THE LESS IT WEIGHS, THE GREATER THE RISK. i found 65 pounds to be the sweet spot. it's NOT easy to tip over. 2) onto the steel base i welded an 8 inch steel sleeve at 30 degrees which was designed to accept a solid copper bar (also cut at 30 degrees.. 42" long / 4" wide / 1/3" thick)
3) into the bar i cut a slot (at level and based on your height) just wide enough to accept the back of the belt clip. (approximately 3-1/2" by 2")
there is no direct metal to metal or metal to plastic contact ANYWHERE. there is hard/soft rubber between every surface both plastic to copper and copper to steel. standing squarely behind the rig, the stick faces into your line of sight exactly like it was designed to do on your belt. my choice of copper allowed for just the right amount of "flex" while playing. a steel bar can be substituted for the copper (but will be much more rigid unless you cut back on its thickness)
aesthetically speaking, you could paint the whole thing flat black for weddings.. or camo for forests =o) or glam it up to the extreme. i was going for industrial.
this was fun to think up and accomplish. now back to greg's dvd so i can someday lug this cool stand onto a stage.
any questions you have please ask.

I like it. A very creative approach.

Re: pedestal stand for the stick?
Very cool! Simple, but elegant....it speaks to me. Copper seems to me a very attractive metal to work with. Where did you source the copper bar from?
