Post 3d-printed belt hook?
I often saw Stick players break their belt hook (I never did myself) and I wonder if someone ever try to 3d-print one?
It could be a fast solution in case of an emergency just before a concert and without the time to order an overseas new one!

What do you think about it? Could it be strong enough to hold the instrument without breaking?

I don’t have a 3D printer so I can’t try myself.

Perhaps SEI should make them in a more durable material? Wood? Bamboo? Aluminum?

I have a 3D printer. Don't use PLA filament for this task. It isn't strong enough. I wouldn't trust a 3D printed hook for something as heavy as a Stick or Railboard. The small angled piece underneath the hook could work because it has screws running through it and is only there as a spacer.

I gave up on neck straps and belt hooks. I like my solution very much.

Yannick may refer to a recent midsaventure. My belt hook broke (again - I think I broke 5 in 20 years), just before a gig. I repaired it just in time for the gig but it definitely died this week. Useless to say that I was uber-stressed during the gig...

This week, I ordered two belt hooks from SE, and Jeff was very nice to send me them very quickly. But with the postage and duty fees, I had to spent 100 euros, which is a huge amount of money for a plastic piece I know it would break soon or later

Maybe the belt hook is breaking because, when playing, I use to bend over my pedalboard quite often, making some stress onto this piece of plastic.
I seriously consider
- to 3D print some belt hooks for my personal use, or even paying an ironworker to make one for me (I know Emmett used this material for the first 70's Sticks), because I'm so upset about this piece to broke so often
- or to disassemble the various parts, covering them with epoxy coating (the same surfers use to make surf boards), then sanding and reassembling them.

Few years ago I went to a shop where a guy told me it was possible for him to make a belt hook (metal) for about 150$ canadians. Well...to buy from SE 2 new ones the price was about 20$...I never came back to the guy who wanted to make me a metal one.

Honestly, I prefer to spend more and have a reliable (and sustainable) solid piece than a piece which can break whenever. Quite scary if you ask me, I can't imagine this piece breaking during a gig!

I've just been given a 3D printer and am keen to apply it to Stick-based solutions!

I've been surprised at how strong PLA can be if you print it solid. Might be interesting to print a belt hook just for test purposes...

My current plans though are:
- something along the lines of the Lap Dawg, but perhaps folding down smaller. I made something in metal a few years ago (pre- Lap Dawg) but wasn't entirely happy with it.

- Something to convert my Ultimate guitar stand into a stick stand. I previously did this perfectly well with some webbing, but might look at the options for something more rigid.

- A case for a rechargeable battery-powered micro-pre-amp so I can easily just plug my stick in to desk/amp when I'm on tiny gigs without losing tone and without taking my (admittedly also small) Mod Dwarf with me and having to power it.

Other ideas welcome!

One of my old Ironwoods from the 70s has the wooden belt clip and I don't ever see that failing.
