Post Tab notation software or app for Stick
Hi everyone,

What’s the latest thinking on the best option for tab notation for Stick?

I have a piece I’m working on, and I’d like to move from paper into something more structured. Maybe with the ability to audition the notes?

But it must support the 10 or 12 string Stick tuning, the ability to notate chord names, multiple pages, etc.

Earlier I was looking at Guitar Pro but I was unsure because it has many features I simply don’t need (like amp simulation!).

I don’t mind if it’s a phone app or a program for MacOS.

Cheers for any advice...

I just use Guitarpro. It works great, and it's really inexpensive.

The one notation software that will do everything you can think of (and then some) is of course Lilypond

MuseScore -- it's free, you can hear what you've entered and the quality of typesetting is pretty good. There's even a guide to setting up the tablature formatting as mentioned in another thread:

I gave MuseScore a try last night. I like it very much. It's pretty cool to play back the notes and hear all of the different instruments. You can create an entire orchestra with this software. The best part of it all, is that it's free.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions.

While the Muse score program does look really impressive, my skills with score are not that strong. I was hoping for something that would let me write down chords, which is why tab is more appealing. It’s going to be a showstopper if I must supply all of the note timing precisely – that is going to slow me right down to a crawl.

Does anyone know if you are able to provide the note names as part of the tab, in Guitar Pro? In other words, not just the fret numbers, but the note in the scale instead? (or in addition.)

I just want simple tab with note names, basically! Just to show the chord progressions really.
