Ah, yeah, it's like explaining the color orange, right :D

The best way to explain it quickly is simply that the outputs from the Stomp are used for a stereo melody side. The FX send is used for the bass side.

Because the send supports stereo (TRS), you can use a TRS to dual mono to send the bass to two separate channels OR run TS out to a bass amp mono. I have only run the bass in mono, so full disclosure, I have not tried (or needed really) to have a stereo bass configuration.

Yes!

Okay, I get that now. Pretty much what I thought.

On the Helix LT the TRS to 2xTS wouldn't be needed as there are a pair of FX outs. The Line 6 kit is SO flexible. :D

PS. I'd listened to most of the Tap In Time podcasts already, but not the one you mentioned. I corrected that today. Very interesting.

Yes! The Line 6 gear is flexible and very well made. Updating, construction, integrity of knobs and buttons - all on point. THAT EDITOR - that has really been the best part for me as I sometimes struggle with the programmability of things using the pedal interface.

I am so glad to hear that, Claire really put that one together and it was informative to hear Igor share his experience in sound design. On that note, let us know if there is something that you want to explore on TnT - cheers.

Love my HX Stomp. It had great utility beyond just the effects. Works very well as a recording interface, and as a way to practice pretty much anywhere. A pair of headphones, your stick and the stomp and your golden. I plug a battery operated drum machine (Volca Sample) into the Aux input if I want a beat.

Its only downside is its painfully short power cord and the worst wall-wart designed by man. You will need an extension chord.

I just discovered Line6 discontinued the much hated DC-3G power cord and has replaced it with the DC-3H. Not sure if it is longer or not. That’s why I quit using the Stomp at open mics and went back to bringing the larger Helix.

You could have purchased something like a Cioks4 or DC7, especially if you were using the Stomp with any other pedals on a board.

I have read many strong recommendations for the DC7 (with the correct adaptor cord) as a great solution. I don't really need a pedalboard at the moment though. Too busy trying to get better at the Stick to bother with lots of effects. For me the Helix is mostly a preamp with a little reverb and chorus, and a very portable way to practice.

After reading the response from you and TappistRT I just ordered a lime green Gator board with the Cioks DC7. I'll use the Stomp with other pedals I have, mostly centered around using the Aeros Looper and Beat Buddy. A bit too much to use with the larger Helix, but the smaller Stomp will be used more as the designers intended, on a board. I recently got a look at a newer HX Stomp with the new revised power supply, but the owner had it in a board so I could not quite tell if the cord was longer, but it definitely does not rob as much real estate like the old wall wort did. The plug is not long and narrow like it's predecessor.

Post Re: Helix Stomp
My Cioks D7 and Gator board arrived today. One unexpected surprise, the DC7 doesn't come with the appropriate cables to power the Stomp. Via the net I found that most are using the Logsdown audio cables that tie two outputs of the DC7 into a center negative 2.5MM. Each DC7 output is about 660 mA, so two is about 1.3A, short of the 3A the Stomp draws, but apparently works. I'll find out when the cables arrive. If you go the Cioks route with their cables, you have to buy an adapter, the Logsdon cable needs no adaptor, thus a better choice.

Same goes for an Eventide H9.

Even if you don't use a board, the DC7 is awesome, could be used loose as a power cord,

That's why it works, 3A is on the box, but if you check out the CIOKS videos, they measure the actual current draw.

When I find that a power cord is not long enough, I fabricate a custom one. I bought some aftermarket power supplies for my Strymon Trio and they all had the wrong polarity. So, I opened them up and with a bit of soldering magic, they are now the proper polarity. If you don't have the tools or materials to modify a power supply, most electrical technicians would be happy to help you out.

I don't get hung up on my equipment, if it's not what I want I change it. I don't like red LEDs, so I swap them out for blue ones. For some reason, I prefer that color, green seems too bright. 8-)
