If you don’t need stereo, the Apogee jam+ is a solid choice.

Way overkill for what I was trying to accomplish (getting the signal from instrument to phone for use with a tuner app). But for those lurking, and who may need a full digital interface, it would seem that the iRig2 offers much the same functionality at a fraction of the price…
