my hx stomp is usually enough for me (off course u can add external pedals as well)
up to 8 at once in total (depends which -some are use lot of dsp) I play mostly clean Stick. Some compressors and reverbs, mainly to let the dry sound "breathe" a little bit. It seems like you could utilize separate preamps for each side and use IR's instead of amp & cab blocks to save on DSP?

Not 100 % sure but I think IRs takes more DSP than amps

Re: Line 6 HX Stomp Discussion
So how do the modulation/reverb effects on this stompbox compare to, say, a Lexicon PCM 81? I could finance the pedal *and* at least part of a new cabinet (I've been looking at the Centerpoint tech. speakers) with what I could sell the PCM for, but I'm awfully attached to my Lexicon Chorus & Reverbs!

Re: Line 6 HX Stomp Discussion
For a long time I felt that reverbs were a weak spot on the Line 6 devices but it’s improved in the last couple years - there was a big update with the Glitz, Ganymede, etc models and most recently Dynamic Hall which is pretty good. If possible you can download a demo of Helix Native on a computer and try it out if you’ve got a decent audio interface.

Re: Line 6 HX Stomp Discussion
I agree with Rob. It’s been years since I’ve owned a Lexicon rack effect. I checked the specs on the PCM 81 and it is not that different from what I had. Even with the latest additions the Stomp and the Lexicon are two different animals. For me the Lexicon was overkill and the Stomp can do what I need. I also have an Eventide H9 and that provides me many things not found in the Stomp. The Chorus effects in the Stomp are not bad but I’ve had better from other MFG’s. Without knowing how you intend to use the Stomp I can’t really give a good personal opinion. Really a great box for live performances. If you want a lot of different Chorus/Reverb/ delays for home studio use, you might be underwhelmed. Try the software as Rob recommended. Good Luck!

Re: Line 6 HX Stomp Discussion
Thanks guys! I may need to download and have a listen. From your comments and looking through the documentation though it seems like the HX is stronger in overdrive, distortion and modeling, where I work more for a "Metheney-esque" sound that relies heavily on modulated detunes/choruses and reverb. For most of my fusion trio work I really only occasionally need a light breakup overdrive or a lead distortion. Most everything else I do is usually pretty "hifi;" never did much with modelling, really. I dunno maybe I've been missing out.
