I just tried it...I have the same setup but never thought about using it this way. Surprising results. Perfect when you don't want to disturb others. In hotel rooms for example. I've been surprise by the fact that I didn't hear any distortion on the bass side. And it's possible to use effects with the Zoom on the mode MTR.

Of course because you go through the Zoom...

Not sure if I've posted this before , not as portable as above.
I spend half the year effectively travelling with this gear.

The Apogee DUET is outstanding like all Apogee Converters , not that cheap but I'll never need to change it on sonic grounds. Into a thin light MacAir running Logic and out to the Senhiesser Noise cancelling cans. Sounds Awesome and goes in a little backback. :geek:

I've traveled with this rig and my lap top... It should work with just a usb charger powering it, but it doesn't. But I always travel with my lap-top so that doesn't matter much.

I'm not sure if I understand completely your question. I recorded in the past directly in my zoom H4n and the results are amazing. The setup we see here is only to avoid the headphones. This way you have a small monitor to practice at home without disturbing the others.
