Post Re: Porta stick rig
My bad for not being more clear. I understand the purpose of the entire rig, and it looks like a really interesting and usable solution to get both a portable practice rig and a portable recording rig. I don't have much experience with field recorders like that, and I know that going direct into some recording units sounds pretty bad when you're trying to record. I was just trying to ascertain the full functionality of this setup

The h4n unit records up to 24-bit. It's a very clean sound. You adjust the volume knobs on the stick so the H4 doesn't clip, or I'm pretty sure you can adjust the gains as well. I'm just learning this H4 unit, so I don't know much about it. the rig really is just to get away from the headphones, or have to carry around my fishman and find outlets etc.. The volume is very low and like any amplifier that I've had experience with you have to adjust the tapping pressure depending on what strings you're hitting, but the sound coming from my little Bose SoundLink is crispy. I like this H4 Thing. I think it will be a nice addition to my equipment. It also has a metronome so you can play and record to a click, and import to pro tools and other software.

Also you can record the two inputs from the bottom and the microphones while you're sitting at a pond or listening to a waterfall and field record sounds of Birds or other nature sounds while you're playing the stick and playing along with nature

For a great sounding, one channel option, I recommend the Apogee Jam into an iOS device running Flux:FX. The preamp on the Jam is outstanding - low noise and a lot of headroom. It sounds great on the PASV4 pickup.
