Even the tiny Bose L1 Compact is a killer. Been gigging with it for 2 years. Enough to fill a noisy irish pub with cristal clear stick and vocals. Love it. I may get the same as yours just to get even more dispersion. But Stick+ Bose = Fab sound. Period. :)


I have a Yamaha PA that I thought sounded pretty good (it does), but the Bose is insanely good, awesome stuff.

Yeah mang. The Yamaha stuff is very discreet as well, great engineering and value for money.

I only use the Yamaha PA when I have to; I prefer using two Roland JC 120s, or a single JC120 in a pinch. The processing I use delivers very consistent tone from application to application whether it's Computer Interface, PA, amps, etc. The Boss GT 100's are great. I have a "Still in the Box" L6 Helix and a couple of AxeFX's as well as a bunch of pretty high end interfaces. I have a Roland GR55 and also a VG99 (VG99 is pretty out of date at this point). I could make any of that stuff work well I feel...

Yeah, do you find it curious that even bands like Metallica are using AxeFX and no amps now?

Well, the FAS axefx's sound really good you know? And for a tour, well it probably saves a lot of money as far as having to deal with guitar and bass amps and stuff... the bands can put other stuff on the stage besides gear haha

I'd still like to hear an Stick Epiphani clip...

I've been lurking and learning from all your wonderful posts. Thank you! While I am presently "Stickless", I do plan to buy my first Stick in the coming months. So I am planning ahead for the day when my first Stick walks into my home.

I really appreciate this thread. Amplification is crucial when addressing the expansive sonic range and tonal capabilities of the Stick. I am a newbie here so I'll only express the thoughts of a newbie...

Well, I plan to first utilize a simple, direct amplification system similar to what I have seen Bob Culbertson use in concert....I'll go direct into my mixer, with flat EQ, then to my PA system....to obtain as clean and pristine a sound as I can get, and from there explore the tonal capabilities inherent within the Stick itself.

I have been watching Greg Howard's instructional DVD "Basic Free Hands Technique" and Greg does a great job explaining that good tone starts with good hand and finger technique....so I plan to spend at least a month or two using just a clean mixer/PA system to learn about the natural pure Stick tones...

Phase Two...I have a Rane AP-13 rack-mount pre-amp that I will plug the Stick into...I'll see what the AP-13 can add.

After that...well....maybe I'll go shopping... ;-) Thank you all for sharing your ideas!

So, I hate vacuuming... and I got this great idea.
I'm going to buy a pair of 1000 watt, JBL EON, powered speakers.

I'll need some ear plugs for this trick,
but the idea is to leave the vacuum running in the middle of the room.
and then, play my vintage Chapman Stick at 2000 watts.

This should be enough to make all the dust in the room go airborne
and the vacuum will take care of the rest. 8-)

BTW - I run my Stick thru a UR44 pre-amp.
