Dbro turned me on to this - 3 channels, and all in stereo. I found mine on reverb - they're out there for $89 +shipping. Very versatile in that you can pan any of the channels full Left or Right.

If you have stereo effects you are plugging into before the mixer, you can get a nice spread of sound. If you want to have separate bass and melody side amps, you can pan the bass left and the melody right.

You can find Powermix III's out there for much less too. Enjoy the journey and keep us posted on your solution.

either of those boxes would be OK, I think. Passive splitters are just jacks wired together in a box, which is pretty much the same thing as a Y cable. You could actually build one pretty easy, but those aren't unreasonably priced for not having to deal with a project.

Here you go.

K&K Dual Channel Preamp - Stereo TRS in and dual mono TR out (or mix to mono TR out).

I use mine to mix/eq both sides and run everything through a simple pedal chain (that is always changing).

My local guitar shop wired me up a splitter box that takes the TRS Input and splits it to a bass and melody output. It's nice, and was $29.00

Say adam, is the box they made literally just a splitter? No other components inside for impedence or buffering?
Interested to know...

Yes. It works great. I got a TRS cable from the stick into the box, one regular cable to the bass amp and one to the guitar.
