The new Electro-Harmonix Platform Compressor: true stereo operation, built-in overdrive and swell features. I think it makes a great stick pedal. P.S. demo video features a lot of Crimson |

That's a cool pedal! I wish they made these pedals with digital control so that you can set up many presets. So many possibilities with this pedal. |

Finally. It does not have two separate engines like the TCE Nova Dynamics - Although, I am still pretty stoked about this. A little part of me died, hearing that drum machine play Bruford's part and I'll be curious to see what Michael says about the "pedal steel" effect. Other than that, I really do like this video and am glad to finally see a compressor with stereo ins.Thanks so much for posting Vlad!

Sounds great to me and I'll prolly get one. But....what exactly is "stereo" about it? 2 ins and 2 outs does not stereo make. I could imagine using it on my melody side for soaring bluesy lead lines. The bowed cello effect is fantasitc. The slightly overdriven compressed thing would sound great if you were playing Europa ala Santana or the Knopfler thing. As far as pedal steel - don't make me laugh. Don't get me wrong it would sound good on a steel but the way he has it kinda swelling in on each note is what a timid novice steel player sounds like when he's waiting to see if he hit the right strings before bringing in the volume pedal. Also the way the pedals on a steel raise and lower various intervals inside a ringing chord can't be done on anything but a pedal steel. There are a few guitarists who do a fair imitation of a few tired double stop steel cliches but a real pedal steel player sounds more like this: Or this: Very cool and unique stomp box though for $150. |

Right you are! Not stereo, just 2 inputs and 2 outputs. I'm having second thoughts about the bass side and melody side going through the same unit. We play each side differently, so maybe I have not thought this through. Not the first time...

As someone that believes in learning the fretboard and knowing where all the notes are, I can't imagine what a pedal steel player is thinking. It must be like learning a different fretboard (or tuning) for each pedal and pedal combination. Amazing. |

It's a different animal to be sure, I just ordered a pedal steel because I have wanted one for ages, and I just love 'em! Kind of need to know your notes AND have a wicked ear... I have a lap steel that I have played to death, those are a ton of fun. There is no way you can really truly emulate and hope to "replace" those instruments with a stompbox pedal. Or any instrument, but it's a worthwhile endeavour to emulate other instruments because a) it's fun and b) it will take your plying in a different direction. Bill Rupert is a really, really good guitarist and a super nice guy. I am really hoping you guys aren't judging his playing, 'cause it's really good. Even his "tired" pedal steel licks sounded pretty good to my ears, really effective demo I thought. This pedal sounds great on guitar, I'd love to hear some demos of it on a mix... The pedal is a badass compression/limiter, It looks like it would be true stereo so you could have two things separate going into the stomp, then routed to two separate, and different places via the input/output. But... they would have the same treatment so both sides of the Stick going in would have the same effect, maybe not suitable because I (for one) really noticed the different tone from the melody side as opposed to the bass side, before one even really looks at how differently each side is played. Still, I love EHX products, nothing else like 'em. I'll buy this pedal, not sure if I'd use it for Stick, but it sounds great! |
