No, you can ONLY ever use the VG-99 There is no alternative How dare you make such an evil, dismissive and disrespectful statement?

Jeez people, think before you post...

I was just kidding, hopefully the humour isn't lost with this post. Otherwise, feel free to send me some hate mail.

FAS AxeFX is awesome, the SY300 is REALLY cool, L6 Helix, Boss GT100, Mod Duo, etc etc Even the Roland GR55 (Although I prefer my VG99 to the GR55 to be honest) And lots of guys doing computer/interface type stuff. I hope that helps, dude!

Your second answer was helpful. Your first answer was, frankly, insulting

I don't have a huge amount of time to go and play with current toys due to career/school happening concurrently -- that's why I left a fairly open topic so I would get ideas.

I've heard that the VG-99 is the bees knees when it comes to the stick... But, just like the SP-13 was also the bees knees in its day, other bees with other knees have come along and I am just looking for the wisdom of the group to cut down on my time spent flailing around in Guitar Center.

By the way... I have an SP-13 still.. :-)

Oh... and an AP-13 that I should probably sell sometime...

lol Well, I'm sorry I insulted you! I will be sure to avoid insulting you in the future, friend!

I with the Triple Play would have a pickup that fits the NS/Stick... I believe the melody side strings are too far apart...

At the NAMM show the guys I was helping (MOD) had a guitar with the Tripleplay built into it. They then just had the usb dongle plugged into the back of the Duo and played synth sounds. It could also be used just like the video that Josh shared and have it control a vocoder or auto tune.

If possible, the tripleplay is the way to go...
BUT... I do feel, as I predicted years ago, that technology will be moving into the ability to use a single cable... and we now have Jam Origin Midi Guitar which still needs a little polishing but it is very exciting. If only they can harness that in a plugin for the Duo...

Dean, what's this guitar now? I'm not too hip on all the new music technology that's been coming out recently. I feel like an ostrich with my head buried in the sand hahaha.

Melodyne's DNA can change the pitch/tune on the fly; so yeah, it's coming.
I've had a Triple play and a GR55 since they came out; and current Melodyne plugin owner...
One of many softwares that deal with this, I think Peavey has/had something similar...

Antares/Peavey thing...

It was a Godin guitar.
Both, Roland and TriplePlay, have kits available to install into guitars without the wart...

Here is a link to the Godin Guitar... There may be other companies making it with the pickup already installed...

I'm torn on the whole hardware MIDI thing. I keep hoping for better software solutions, and that Jam Origin MIDI Guitar is good but not perfect. Then Roland is supposed to have something new out, which Jayesskerr can actually speak to, when he's not kidding about the awesome VG-99. Which I hear is awesome.

What was that new thingy, Scott? You said hold off for the...forgot what it was.

You missed out getting to the community on time, I used to have a VG 99 with the appropriate Roland pickup on my guitar. Then I tried Ozs Godin that has the built in electronics. His Godin worked far better than what I was using with it. Eventually I hated having to be tied to that cable and external pickup which threw the balance of my guitar off. The MIDi guitar thing wasn't for me. I later traded it for other gear. Only one person here on this forum at the time was even interested in it when I posted it for sale.

Talking with guys a at local GCs, the VG 99 was a terrible seller. They were lucky to sell more than one a year. Seems a couple of Stick players made the best use of them.

For those that want something like this, hopefully something better will come out. Guitarists had no love for the VG 99 from what I've seen.

Look into the Boss GP10. It's like having half a VG99, but is dirt cheap.

With some of the tech that EH has come out with in their "9" series pedals I'll bet it won't be too long before you see really comprehensive processing that comes in one unit that requires no Midi conversion. Right now they have the 2 organ pedals, one key, mellotron and now synth 9 with what sounds like no latency. Oh and they did have a pretty cool Sitar pedal I'm not sure if they still make. Now they just need to roll them all up into one nice unit! ;)
