Post Alternative to belt-hook for those about to rock
On a separate thread, K Rex threw out this question - does anyone have an answer for this? Kev, I hope you don't mind me throwing this out to everyone as I didn't want it to get buried in the LapDawg thread and I always enjoy hearing other's thoughts on this.

What is the alternative for those who play in rock bands, who do not sit while playing heavy music, whose standard belt puts the instrument far too high to be ergonomically practical and who feel that some sort of harness/belt-thingy renders wearing the instrument far too goofy-looking to be considered for rock and roll legitimacy, much less eligible for hooking up with hot chicks after the show?

You may note my sarcasm, but there are some (not only me) who feel this disqualifies a certain demographic from ownership.

In 8 years of complaining about the rigidity of the belt-hook, I have yet to receive a response over this issue.

My initial thought would be something like a belt that fits around the waist or hips, but with a secondary loop that is separate from the belt's strap.

Even when I regularly played bass in rock bands I always had it as high as I could and as anchored as I could get it (okay they were prog bands but still). The stationary nature of the Stick is something I really appreciate personally. It feels like it's part of my body.

As far as babes are concerned, well, the kind of music I've ever played in a non-intimate setting seems to be a girl repellent anyway.

I don't know if this is the sort of thing that you're talking about K-Rex, but early on I wondered how players like Steve Adelson and Nick Beggs managed to play sitting down with the Stick across their hip, rather than suspended between the legs.

This is what I came up with. It's rough, and if I ever wanted to perform sitting I'd have to refine it. It's basically a canvas strap on a quick release and a plastic carabiner. It works to get me comfortable sitting with the Stick across my hip, however I find it puts the instrument too low to play standing. That sounds like it might be a positive for you.

..my idea does away with the belt hook completely. It will work Im sure but i dont have the know how to see it thru.....
This system will allow you to play strapleess, swivel yer Stick to the correct playing angle, and get all the chicks ye ever dreamed of.

This is very similar to Ned Steinbergers bass strap system

cheers,

I've just been using a gun belt from Safariland. They have nice looking belts that you can wear with pants and they're strong enough to support your Stick (or handgun, or both!)

I like my Stick to sit high so I just adjusted the belt hook and I'm always ready to go.

The lowest setting should be low enough unless you're an old guy who pulls their pants up to their armpits! :D

Kev,

Is that an actual strap which attached to the base or is it a sort of brace?
