Hope Equipment is the best Place for this. I've been through the whole rise of Apple way back to the Mac Classic, Sound Tools etc etc. Here's an interesting piece from a guy who is just about over the "iWorld" and ready for a change of OS. I don´t really know what to say about this..... But just some few words...... I was very late to leave the PC world. Had Soundscape, GREAT (!!) HD recording system, and still spent 10 or more hours each week to keep everything up an running in the studio. Took the decision some 10 years ago to go over to Mac instead and all of a sudden no tech problems at all more or less. Or less than one hour per week at least. Everything has been running rather smoothly since then. Would I want to go back into the PC/Microsoft world? NO FUCKING WAY! I became rather good at optimising PC computers but I helped a friend the other day with his PC and it was just chaos. Would I want a scaled down Mac OS specialised in music/film production for the studio computer? Yes. That could be a good thing. But Microsoft? NO! Linux? Better than Microsoft but still, NO! There are no alternatives in my world. Mac OS still runs smooth and I don´t have any problems at all more or less. Apogee sound card. Logic/Protools/Digital Performer DAW´s. Very few problems. No way that I´ll change OS. Not until Apple fucks up completely. On a level that competes with Microsoft´s fuck-ups.... That will take some time until that happens.

Well, I have to say that I've been using windows since forever, pushing it really hard everyday as far as audio and video editing is concerned. The pc allows for some pretty important things: I can have as many FireWire devices as I need, and it's fully customizable. It never goes online though, and I mean NEVER, it's a machine for audio and video work. it's been years since I had a problem with a studio computer. Once a year I revert to a previous safe point and that's it. What I've had lots of problems with, is windows on the laptop connected to net. So, as I see it, next computer will be a Mac just for the web, movies, and al that junk. Will keep to win7 on the big machine.... Wich is kind of funny... A few years back, it would have been the other way around :)

I hear what you say Jan, I ran in the early days Quadra 840's, then G4's and so on. As I used to say to People, they just work, go to work, turn it on, record, mix , go home 14 hours later, no problem!
I sent the same piece to some close friends who are still full time pros with big Mac rigs, one very big ( ProTools ) , they are never moving and dont have the issues he talked about. I see the way Apple has changed , but I still have a pathological aversion to Windows after all these years for some reason. Set up properly I guess it works though, as many would testisfy, Rodrigo being a great example. The comparison will rage until the end of time.......Thanks for comments People. :D

I will say, after using very low end recording software and A/D box (free Cubase and a Tascam US144) - moving to a Mac and Logic Pro X really was an eye opener. The simplicity of the setup of the Mac OS recognizing the A/D converter, the simplicity of the Apogee interface, etc...could not imagine trying to use a PC again (I guess the bias of believing that for general computing weighs in heavily...) But boy does Mac do recording so much more effortlessly.
