Post Walter Woods amps.. Are they or Aren't they?
Very confused when looking up Walter woods amps online. It seems that some places show some "new" items but I find no website for them? Are these merely unsold stock or is the company really still around?

Walter Wood’s makes his really legendary handmade amps in different versions with one, two or four channels. When they first came out in the early 1970’s, they were the first amps designed for the double bass. For many bassists, the Walter Woods’ amp is still the reference amp. They are available as special order directly from Walter Woods only.

Walter Woods, Tel. 760 772-7952, Palm Desert CA, USA
(no website) I've heard he was slowing down.

Wow! Those amps.... When I started out as a jazz double bass player, 25 years ago, I used to dream about owning one. So, as I applied to NY city college (Ron Carter was teaching there) and made my way to NY, had this plan in my mind - if I ever find one, I'll buy it. Turns out, first music store I walk in, ask about it and they say: sure, we have a used one for sale. Can you imagine: 30 minutes in NY and I find one just two doors down from were I'm staying? It was one of the older models, from the 70's. Best amp I've ever heard in all these years. Had a problem though, couldn't stand the slightest variation in electric current, used to explode and burn in the middle of gigs. Eventually I sold it, to a friend, he never payed me, lost the amp and a friend.

FREE SHIPPING! I love free shipping, it's just not free to Canada. :?

I like finding broken stuff and fixing it up. My Peavey Musician Amp Head had wires hanging out of it, when I bought it.
The total cost of the amp including repair parts was under $100. It's definitely an interesting amp. (and very loud).

Huh, there was one of these sitting at my local guitar shop last time I stopped in. Pretty sure it was way less than what that reverb ad had as well.

http://www.flatlandguitar.com/

It's a shop by the name of Flatland Guitars. Great guys own/run the shop. I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure that's what the amp was. I noticed it was very odd. This was about a month ago though, so no telling if it's still there.

Walter Wood's amps sound great and are of very high quality, but some of them are fairly old by now. Be careful and do your research before buying one.

1. some models can't be fixed because parts are no longer available and Walter won't even touch them.

2. some models had the part numbers sanded off of the components as Walter didn't want people stealing his ideas. That would make it practically impossible for someone else to service those models.

3. Some people have had a hard time dealing with Walter. I only had one opportunity to talk with him on the phone and he was super supportive. We diagnostic and fixed my amp over the phone. (I sold the amp a few years just so I could sell it while it was still working 100% and not worry)

Go to https://www.talkbass.com/ and search on Walter Woods for more information.
