Post Pickup Buzzing?
Hey guys,

So my old Stick has a noticeable buzz to it now. It seems to be a grounding issue, as it goes away if I touch any metallic part of my rig (cable, pickup, computer body). A little tap on the pickup will make it momentarily go away. This does not happen with my newer Alto Stick (also Stickup).

Is there something that can or should be done to my old Stickup to fix this, or is a new pickup the best way to go? Any idea what causes this?

Thanks!

Have you tried changing cables?

Cables wear out over time. The conductors inside get damages and can start to cause buzzing due to poor conductivity.

Otherwise I don't recommend the Don Schiff method of tying a guitar string from the stick to your wiener... He almost lost it... literally...

Haha, no, I won't try that, I'll keep the buzzing.

I don't think it's the cable, as it is new, and sounds fine with the Alto. :-/ I'll try swapping around though.

Before you make any decisions, go through a dummy check and start at your electrical outlet to make sure there isn't a grounding issue there. (However, if you plug other things into the same outlet and none of them have a buzzing issue, you're pretty safe in assuming it's in the Stick.)
Might be time for a new pickup, or at least some repairs. If you have another instrument, then you can spare the loss of the old one for a while. I'd take it out of the instrument, and if you have a local guitar tech you trust, they can go over it to make sure all the soldering and connections are still good. If not, send it to SE and see if it's worth reconditioning.
