Stereo cable - breakout box
Does anyone else use a single Stereo cable and break out box? I did this back with my Stick and just recently made another box for the Megatar rig. (dig the green lantern graphic?)

Interesting idea. I may have to steal it

Sacrosanct wrote: Interesting idea. I may have to steal it If you build a box, Just watch out for cheap stereo jacks! I found that the ones sold thru frys electronics with the plastic housing worked better than the standard phenolic types. I tried using some phenolic stereo jacks from ebay that were total junk and I ended up having to replace them and rewire all over again with the more solid plastic housing type of jacks. The standard phenolic mono jacks worked fine, only the stereo ones gave me problems. Cheers!

On the Stick side, I use a TRS-XLR adapter. I like using XLR mic cables. Keep It Simple System. Easy to replace. Easy to change cable lengths. XLR-dual TRS splitter cable for the amp side.

Re: Stereo cable - breakout box
I want to try something similar: a stereo cable from the Stick direct into a TRS patchbay. This means it can be routed around to different effect options just via a stereo patch cord. For the connections to Boss SE50 and other fx there are "Y" format patch cables (TRS to 2xmono 1/4").
Anyone doing this?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Be careful. Patch bays are usually "normalized", and this might affect the impedance of a passive pickup. If you have the ACTV-2, no worries.

Re: Stereo cable - breakout box
Great feedback Greg - thank you.
On a related question (I wanted to ask you), is it possible to modify an AP13 to work in Active mode with a Railboard? I think this means matching the impedance on both channels to 1Mohm, and also enabling 48v phantom power to both bass and melody pickups on the Rblock. Does that even make sense?? I'm thinking about the future and making use of the phantom power on the AP13 so I can take an active signal into the patchbay...

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Unfortunately the phantom power on the AP-13 only works on the "mic" channel, and it's only 15 volts, so I would say another solution is called for. There are some really nice mixers out there, some with programmable routing and built-in effects, with really nice mic pres, to. Several folks here are big fans of the QSC Touchmix.

Re: Stereo cable - breakout box
Here is an option that may be of interest. I got one to ease patching the Stick to pedals and to my modular. A well made passive device. http://www.boredbrainmusic.com

Re: Stereo cable - breakout box
I use a single stereo cable and an active (buffered) box that has both dual mono and mono mix outs. Works good both for pedalboard (separate mono outs) and straight-into-amp (mono mix) connections. Top jack also doubles as stereo out if you plug a trs cable into it.
